Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision of the Global Director Of Purchasing and is mentored by the Senior Buyer. Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment.
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:
- Responsible for sourcing and purchasing and negotiating materials, equipment, and supplies from suppliers based on pre-determined formats and processes
- Responsible for new supplier set-ups and filing all supplier documents
- Responsible for maintaining supplier records, such as NAFTA certifications, ISO/TS/IATF certifications, supplier documents and supplier agreements
- Evaluates supplier quotes and services to pre-determine formats and processes to determine most desirable suppliers
- Support the purchasing function and other relevant departments and communicate any supply problems which may impact on business operations
- Negotiate contracts, improved pricing and terms of business with suppliers and review opportunities to make business savings utilizing best practice tools and methods
- Act as an interface between suppliers and other relevant departments on purchasing processes and new projects and activities
- Works closely with MP&L department with regards to raw materials
- Handles NAFTA/AALA/MA/COO Drawback paperwork for customers as required
- Handles packaging needs for new and existing programs
- Conduct research for new components and suppliers
- Provide analysis on costs, new and existing and review cost reduction activities
- Compile data relating to supplier performance to enable evaluation
- Assess and evaluate suppliers and contribute to performance reviews to ensure contract compliance
- Monitor and advise on any issues which present risk or opportunity to the organization
- Prepare reports and updates as needed and when required
- Contact suppliers to resolve price, quality, delivery or invoice issues
- Explore alternate sources for goods and materials
- Responsible for monitoring the Electronic Purchase Requistion System and preparing purchase orders upon full approval
- Complies with safety regulations & maintains a clean and orderly work areas (5S)
- Perform all other duties assigned special assignments as assigned or needed
- Supports the supplier development, management, scorecard and diversity requirements
- Contributes to developing minority relationship and minority spending
- Production Buyer will play a role in the RFQ process

Qualifications
- Requires a Bachelors Degree or minimum 4 years purchasing related experience or combination of education and experience
- Advanced computer skills, QAD experience preferred
- Must be highly skilled and motivated and able to follow instruction as well as work independently and in a team
- Strong knowledge of negotiation, communication, interpersonal and influencing skills
- Able to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks and achieve set targets
- Analytical, numerically asture and strong proven problem solving abilities
- Able to work well under pressure and handle emergency and stressful situations
- Commercial and financial awareness with a full understanding of how failure impacts the production, manufacturing and customer order fulfilment
- Keen attention to detail and accuracy
- Good technical knowledge and understanding of automotive processes and components and supply chain management
- Familiarity with an integrated Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system
