Job Summary
As a Network Technician, you will be responsible for maintaining and supporting Cisco VoIP Technologies, Cisco Router, Switches, and Wireless hardware and controllers and maintaining the network communication closets at NASA's Kennedy Space Center.
This position is represented by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Union.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Responsible for maintaining and supporting Cisco VoIP Technologies, Cisco Router and Switches, and maintaining the network closets
- Responsible for Wireless Network on the center.
- Perform maintenance on networked systems under the direction of Network Engineers.
- Participate in all network operations and communications system related implementations.
- Understand IEEE specifications and the OSI model as they pertain to data networking, data communications, and connectivity.
- Works independently with little supervision, and assists Network Engineers with design, load analysis, upgrade implementation and maintenance
- Make recommendations to improve work quality, efficiencies, and productivity
- Adhere to OSHA, NASA, and Aetos safety requirements
- May assist in training others
Required Minimum Education
- Associate of Science or Technical Trade School in Electronics, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or related field or successful completion of a State or Military approved bona fide work-related apprenticeship program recognized by the US Department of Labor
- Four (4) years related experience
- Must have Cisco Router and Switch experience, including Cisco iOS
- Must have VoIP experience
- Two (2) years of experience with Cisco Routers and Switches is required
- Must be a U.S. citizen with ability to pass a NASA background investigation
- Must hold and maintain a valid Florida driver's license
- Must be able to pass an initial and random drug testing
- Requires working indoors and outdoors.
- Often requires lifting to 35 - 50 pounds and working on uneven surfaces and standing for long periods of time.
- Requires repetitive movement, bending, stooping, twisting, and working in awkward positions.
- Lighting conditions may be inadequate in some work locations.
- Ability to recognize or interpret differences in wire and cable colors.
- Ability to receive and transmit auditory information using telecommunication or electronic devices.
- Must be willing able to work at Height, ranging from in ladder to tower and open structure up to 300 ft.
- CCNA Certification preferred
