Data Analyst, Data Visualization Consultant

Job Description:

The Data Visualization Consultant plays a pivotal role in Marine Corps Logistics by leading data source management, database administration, and PowerBI visualization efforts. They implement and maintain fully functional databases, applying fundamental principles to job assignments. Interfacing with internal and external stakeholders, they contribute significantly to departmental goals and planning initiatives. Project coordination spans vertically and horizontally within Major Subordinate Command Marine Corps staff. To support scalable data stores, they develop large datasets for business analysis, informing key leader decision-making. Additionally, they assist in designing BI dashboards and reports for logistics and fiscal Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and data analytics tools aligned with Marine Corps Readiness optimization and Intermediate Supply and Maintenance production oversight.

The position entails various responsibilities, including:

• Managing project progress and reporting to superiors on project status.
• Troubleshooting data issues by tracing data flow and identifying root causes.
• Maintaining SQL queries for ad-hoc reports.
• Enhancing stored procedures for production databases.
• Performing testing on customized web-based analytical software.
• Improving project plans to maximize efficiency by minimizing time and effort.
• Collaborating with stakeholders to analyze operational procedures, identify problems, and determine specific input and output requirements.
• Validating and analyzing data to convert raw data into analytical reports for decision-making purposes.
• Creating schema objects such as attributes, facts, logical views, user hierarchies, and transformations using PowerBI.
• Developing public objects like metrics, filters, prompts, consolidations, custom groups, reports, and documents based on client requirements using PowerBi.
• Designing and maintaining document services reports according to client needs.
• Developing and maintaining custom reports combining multiple data sets and creating customized dashboards and scorecards using report services.

Education Requirements: Bachelor's degree

Waiverable/Substitutable: Yes

• A four-year degree is substitutable with additional four years of experience in lieu of the degree.

Experience Requirements:

DOD Clearance is required

US Citizenship is required

• Two years of operating experience with SQL & PowerBI are required.
• General experience includes increasing responsibilities in design and/or maintenance of complex electronic systems.
• Familiarity with Design and Development Software Process Activities, including Waterfall and Agile Design Processes, and knowledge of database design and development.
• Progressive experience in design and installation of integrated systems involving personnel, materials, machinery, and/or equipment.
• Knowledge of both logical and physical data modeling.

Preferred:

• Familiarity with DoD Logistics and Supply Chain operations, along with working knowledge of recent developments and policies affecting Marine Corps Supply and Maintenance Activity, would be beneficial.
• Progressive financial and/or logistics and/or system experience would be advantageous.
