The Underwriting Support Specialist II performs a variety of underwriting support tasks to ensure proper file documentation and policy issuance. Point of contact with agents and internal stakeholders.
RESPONSIBILITIES/TASKS:
- Performs underwriting tasks as determined by supervising underwriting, within letter of authority, including new/renewal business screening, renewal and endorsement underwriting, referring exceptions to the supervising underwriter
- Review bind requests for completeness, follow-up on missing items, and work with underwriter to ensure all documentation and information is complete and acceptable.
- Convert bind requests into policy typing packets so that policies can be typed and issued.
- Manage diaries and follow-ups for information on accounts.
- Process endorsements.
- Rate new and renewal accounts as required.
- Review all inspections and prepare findings for underwriters.
- Refer individual risks to underwriter that are beyond delegated authority.
- Often the first point of contact for agents, this position is responsible for communicating directly with our agents on policy maintenance items.
- Other duties as requested by supervising underwriter.

EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
High school diploma or G.E.D required. Additional college and/or insurance related course study desirable.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of 2 years commercial casualty underwriting support experience preferably in a multi-state, multi-bureau environment. Previous experience with larger premium workers compensation policies a plus. Previous regulatory compliance experience a plus.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES (SKA) REQUIRED:
- Excellent verbal and written communication and computer skills required
- Strong customer and team-oriented work experience and ethic
- Familiarity with commercial insurance bureau and underwriting processes
- Ability to work effectively independently and as a team is essential
- Accurate math and data entry skills required
- Ability to organize daily work responsibilities and meet deadlines
- Ability to take initiative and recommend changes to improve operational performance
- Knowledge of computers and company standard software programs, with intermediate knowledge of Excel
- Excellent customer service skills are essential
- Effective problem solving and attention to detail skills are essential

Pay Range - Actual compensation decision relies on the consideration of internal equity, candidate’s skills and professional experience, geographic location, market, and other potential factors. It is not standard practice for an offer to be at or near the top of the range, and therefore a reasonable estimate for this role is between $38,100 and $64,000.
