What are the responsibilities and job description for the Inserter Operator position at AF Group?
Operator sets up and utilizes various output equipment, to include folding machines, inserter machines and postage meter machines to accomplish the processing of documents for various internal and/or external customers. Operator will maintain equipment upkeep, troubleshooting, continuous quality checks, and upkeep of necessary inventories used for the ongoing operations of output management. Operator must keep work area neat and clean, performing daily preventative maintenance aimed at ensuring the ongoing operations of key equipment functionality.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Independently performs set up and operates various inserter machines simultaneous with one another.
- Performs daily cleaning & upkeep of both inserter equipment and of the surrounding work area.
- Conducts troubleshooting of equipment (errors & jams) by performing fine-tuning adjustments on various parts of equipment.
- Identifies and works to correct any issues which may occur as part of the daily print & processing of outbound checks, letters & statements.
- Operator must prioritize tasks to ensure that business-critical mailings get processed and make it out the door same-day to insure compliance with insurance regulations.
- Operator must communicate with area leadership and/or impacted business units of any operational challenges experienced (e.g. foreseeable delays, etc.).
- Assembles and prepares various packets & mailings for external customers. This may be performed either manually or by machine.
- Orders and inventories supplies as needed, to include envelopes & printed materials used for customer mailings.
- Logs and records all processed paperwork, special handling mailings, and equipment stats for departmental reporting purposes.
- Maintains error logs and able to explain key functionality concerns of equipment which is used to assist in vendor management & equipment upkeep.
- Communicates to and maintains rapport with vendor support technicians to assist with identifying any ongoing issues & educate self on resolve.
- Submits service calls to vendors for technical support of equipment when vendor support is deemed necessary.
- Communicates in-person, email and/or phone with various departmental contacts depending on business need.
- Auditing of completed mailings to insure mail piece integrity, to include piece count balancing and/or manual recounting of filled envelopes.

EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma, GED.
B. EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
A minimum of six (6) months experience performing manual and automated mail processing using various equipment.
C. SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES (SKA) REQUIRED:

- Basic knowledge of computers and ability to enter alpha/numeric data accurately.
- Successful completion of technical support training for inserter equipment within 6 months of hire.
D. ADDITIONAL EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND/OR ABILITIES PREFERRED:
Minimum of 6 months previous experience working with inserter equipment.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed in an office setting and is subject to loud noise caused by the ongoing operation of various equipment. Ability to move or lift objects weighing 50 lbs. or more unassisted.
The position requires the incumbent to move throughout the building regularly and/or to and from the post office. The position may require local travel and the incumbent must possess a valid driver's license with a record that meets corporate standards.
