Job Overview
Affiliated Foods Inc. is seeking a professional and experienced Buyer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of retail meat experience, with a strong understanding of the meat industry, market trends, and customer preferences. A bachelor’s degree in marketing or business is a plus, but emphasis is placed on relevant retail experience.
As a Meat Buyer, you will manage all aspects of multiple product lines, from purchasing and supplier negotiations to advertising and merchandising. You’ll work closely with suppliers and customers to ensure top-quality products and seamless operations.
Duties
- Identifying, researching & selecting quality products and material for purchase
- Analyzing & negotiating market trends/pricing to make insightful buying decisions
- Coordinating & updating inventory and quality assurance to ensure stock levels with warehouse inventory
- Arranging transport of goods to ensure timely delivery
- Following up on back orders and making special arrangements to expedite late orders
- Maintaining up-date product information files
- Developing and growing vendor/supplier/customer relationships
- Working independently and/or a team to forecast business needs & purchasing decisions based on demand
- Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, & handle several on-going projects
- Perform other duties as requested by Procurement Director
- Requirements
- Proven experience in a buying or procurement role, preferably within a manufacturing or logistics environment.
- Strong knowledge of supply chain management principles and practices.
- Proficiency in SAP or similar ERP systems is highly desirable.
- Excellent negotiation skills with the ability to build rapport with suppliers.
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail for effective decision-making.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines.
- Familiarity with sourcing strategies and inventory management techniques is a plus.
- A degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field is preferred but not mandatory.
Must be meticulous with excellent organizational, analytical and problem solving skills. Must be able to multi-task and efficiently complete assignments in order to meet deadlines in a timely manner. Must be self- motivated, self-directed, able to work independently as well as a team. Must display a prominent level of professionalism, confidentiality and competent customer service in order to communicate with various levels of management within Affiliated Foods, including its’ subsidiaries, buyers, vendors, member stores, distributors, auditors, etc. Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook), As400 or Herlitz Himpact a plus. Extensive data entry and ten-key by touch with accuracy in numbers. Will work directly under the Director of Purchasing and complete all other assigned duties as instructed.
