Reporting Relationships: Recreation Specialist report to the Clinical Supervisor.
Position Summary: The Recreation Specialist is responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of recreation activities and programming appropriate for the client population. The Recreation Specialist has lead responsibility for integrating recreation services within the tasks of all team members. The Recreation Specialist works as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide services help their team and program to function well and meet their contractual obligations; and striving, as appropriate to their role, to fulfill AAPCI programs' core purpose, core values and vision statements. Specific duties may vary by area assigned.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the general supervision of the Assistant Program Director, Recreational Specialists are expected to perform the following duties and responsibilities.
- Organize, lead, and promote interest in recreational activities such as arts, crafts, sports, games, gym, on-site tournaments and other leisure time activities.
- Meet with clients regularly to ascertain and interpret client interests and develop activities to meet their interests.
- Plan, coordinate, publicize, implement and facilitate support groups, recreational activities, special events and holiday programs.
- Complete and maintain time and attendance forms.
- Update and post printed materials and encourage client participation.
- Assist in the development and implementation of new programs aimed at enhancing client’s motivation through socialization and the development of leisure time skills.
- Coordinate programs with case managers in order to facilitate success of In-Reach sessions.
- Develop contacts with various sources for off-site activities.
- Assist in preparing and submitting written and statistical reports.
- Document client participation in recreational activities in client's case record.
- Meet and collaborate with agency personnel, community organizations, NYC Parks Department, and other professional personnel to plan balanced recreational programs for participants.
- Escort clients to recreational activities and other relevant events.
- Communicates with the Social Services team to discuss client concerns or client's progress.
- Attend external and internal case staffing meetings as necessary to coordinate services.
- Work as part of a team to ensure service delivery to all Housing Program tenants.
- Develops and maintains contacts with various community agencies to gather information on available resources, to relay appropriate client information, and to improve services provided.
- Help clients to identify positive ways of spending time.
- The recreation Specialist will participate and contribute to a program culture that is client-centered, outcome-oriented and dedicated to continuous quality improvement.
- Comfort using public transportation and traveling throughout the boroughs.
- Programs and activities will be in line with program goals and objectives; clients will have access to an array of support, socialization and recreational activities.
- Socialization activities will be enhanced to increase client involvement and develop their socialization skills. Clients will be engaged and receptive to program services.
- Clients will be consistently engaged to accept program services and immediate needs addressed.
- Data collected will be accurate and complete and reports will be completed and submitted on time. The outcomes/results for the client and the program will be successful with a reduced recidivism rate.
- Participate in on-site and off-site trainings and meetings, as needed.
- Performs other related duties as may be requested by immediate supervisor.
- Maintain a case load and meet with clients in accordance to AAPCI and funders guidelines.
Qualifications
Minimal Qualifications:
Degree Requirement: Bachelor’s degree in a related field (social work, mental health counseling, psychology, sociology etc.) with at least three (3) – five (5) years’ experience in a residential setting or,
- Associate degree in a related field (social work, mental health counseling, psychology, sociology etc.) with at least five (5) years’ experience in a residential setting.
Other Qualifications:
- Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills with focus on providing excellent client services.
- Strong written communication skills and ability to complete reports, as assigned
- Demonstrate ability to interact effectively and collaboratively with a diverse community of residents, program staff and external vendors.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and apply problem solving skills.
- Experience working collaboratively in a team oriented and outcomes focused environment.
Compensation and Benefits
Base salary range and benefits information for this position are being included in accordance with requirements of New York State and City pay transparency laws. Please note that salaries may vary for different individuals in the same role based on several factors, including but not limited to location of the role, individuals’ competencies, education/professional certifications, qualifications/experience and performance in the role.
Compensation
The base salary compensation range being offered for this role is $45,000 to $50,000 per year.
