This position is responsible for the creative direction, oversight of the video productions unit and quality control of union content. Incumbent oversees the work of a team of video producers, editors and videographers and helps set the creative strategy for video and related content in priority campaigns and complex projects. Incumbent has a deep and demonstrated understanding of the union’s brand and its representation in video and other content.
Duties
- Creates and manages the development of high-profile video and related content for use in priority campaigns and projects.
- Provides quality control and ensures brand adherence to videos and union content.
- Evaluates, evolves and maintains pipeline workflows for video projects, workflow and sharing.
- Determines video priorities and assigns projects to the video production team.
- Stays up to date on performance metrics to craft and evolve video strategies and creative standards.
- Provides guidance and direction to ensure that video project goals and deliverables are clearly communicated and achieved.
- Creates production budgets for specified projects and makes recommendations for the annual operating and capital budgets for video.
- Negotiates and maintains relationships with videographers, editors, production companies and other vendors.
- Trains, advises and assists affiliate staff on video and social media best practices as needed.
- Takes an active role in hiring and training of new team members and helps to establish team norms and a healthy, collaborative culture.
- Serves in a lead capacity for the video unit for AFSCME’s biennial convention and other priority events.
- Collaborates with fellow assistant directors to create cohesive multimedia campaigns and ensures that creative elements align with the department’s overall strategy and vision.
- Manages the production of videos including scripting.
- Performs other duties as assigned in support of departmental activities.
Requirements
Education and Experience
Skills Requirements
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in digital filmmaking, video productions or visual and media arts and a minimum of at least seven (7) years of experience in digital filmmaking or video production; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
