Our client a forward-thinking public accounting firm, is seeking a Director of Technology to join their team! The Director of Technology will lead their internal IT function — balancing strategic vision with hands-on execution. This is a rare role combining technical leadership with business impact, perfect for someone who can bridge the gap between accounting operations and technology innovation. Our client is investing heavily in modernizing their operations and embracing new technologies to enhance service delivery, automate repetitive processes, and stay ahead of industry trends. The Director of Technology will assess and evolve their existing IT infrastructure, partner closely with stakeholders across tax, audit, and firm leadership, and help define how technology will support the company's next phase of growth.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement an IT roadmap aligned to firm growth, security, and efficiency.
- Evaluate and enhance internal IT org structure (currently 1 IT Manager 1 Help Desk, with NetGain MSP support).
- Establish KPIs and reporting to measure IT performance, adoption, and impact.
- Assess existing IT team members and define gaps/needs.
- Build a structure that balances in-house and external (MSP) resources.
- Lead with a coaching mindset and support team skill growth.
- Lead efforts to identify, evaluate, and implement tech tools that improve workflows (particularly in tax and audit).
- Champion automation and AI-driven process improvement initiatives.
- Interface with business units to understand their pain points and propose scalable solutions.
- Act as translator between technical staff, firm leadership, and client-facing professionals.
- Regularly communicate project status, priorities, and performance metrics to internal stakeholders.
- Collaborate with Heads of Tax, Audit, and Family Office to identify technology opportunities.
- Oversee cybersecurity posture and ensure industry best practices.
- Optimize vendor relationships (e.g., NetGain) and tool stack.
Qualifications:
- 5–10 years of experience in IT leadership, ideally in a public accounting or professional services firm.
- Track record of modernizing IT environments and leading automation or system integration projects.
- Strong understanding of tools like:
- CCH Axcess (Tax)
- Thomson Reuters Engagement / AdvanceFlow (Audit)
- QuickBooks
- Microsoft 365 / Adobe Suite
- Experience working with MSPs and managing hybrid IT models.
- Exceptional communication skills — able to earn trust at all levels, from Help Desk to Managing Partner.
