Reporting to the V.P. of Turf, the Farm Manager will be responsible for managing the operations of our County Line and Hog Bay farm locations and for planning, organizing, implementing, directing, and coordinating activities of team members engaged in sod production, harvesting/loading and sales.

Physical Demands of the position:
Position involves regular, and at times sustained, performance of heavier physical tasks such as walking over rough or uneven surfaces, bending, kneeling, stooping, working in confined spaces, and lifting or carrying moderately heavy (20-50 lbs.) items and occasionally very heavy (100 pounds or over) items; or may involve the complex operation of gasoline, electric, or diesel-powered machinery or shop equipment requiring the manipulation of multiple controls, fine adjustments or both. Position requires color, sound, odor, depth, texture, and visual perception and discrimination. Chemicals mixed by recipe and safely handled and stored. Ability to work under adverse weather conditions (cold - heat).
Noise Level: Farming machinery.

Essential Duties Include, but not limited to:
Grower responsibilities
- Supervise and maintain purity by variety.
- Direct timely planting and replanting.
- Implement production protocols and quality control measures.
- Monitor the Farm's plans and implementation of fertilizer and nutritional programs, including fungicides.
- Responsible for harvesting and loading.
- Responsible for receiving and shipping trays and loading trucks/shipping.
- Ensure that farm equipment is working properly and is well maintained.
Production Management
- Assess workforce requirements for high season and slow season.
- Discuss new hire needs and new hire selection with V.P. of Turf.
- Monitor the supervision of orders for harvesting/cut sheets/reconcile with payroll and others.
- Monitor chemical orders and inventories.
- Work with other functional areas/departments to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Occasionally handle and resolve customer issues.
- Identify and escalate priority issues.
Safety
- Plan and lead safety tailgate meetings.
- Provide a safe and positive work environment for all employees including the coordination of quarterly safety meetings.
- Roll-out/enforce Bethel's safety program.
Employee Recruitment, Motivation and Development
- Collaborate with V.P. of Turf and HR on employee recruitment, onboarding, and terminations.
- Monitor employee morale and engagement.
- Provide guidance, leadership, and motivation to those in need, collaborating with HR for training and incentives.
- Develop yearly goals under the direction of V.P. of Turf.
- Hold employees accountable for their development and training goals.

Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in horticulture, agronomy or turf and grounds maintenance, or equivalent experience
- Possess or willing to obtain the Restricted Pesticide License (private applicator)
- Relevant product knowledge
- Bilingual (English/Spanish), preferred
- Proficient in relevant computer applications
- Knowledge of internal/external customer service principles and practices
