Summary
We are seeking a plant pathology technician who will assist with efficacy trials on foliar and soilborne pathogens, including nematodes, to deliver accurate biological data to clients
Responsibilities
- Support Plant Pathology experiments in collaboration with the Genomics team through rapid agronomy and disease assay development in greenhouse and field trials on major crops grown in California.
- Prepare and apply pesticide mixtures for research purposes.
- Monitor and maintain experiments, collect samples, and record real time data and conduct analysis in electronic laboratory notebooks.
- Utilize knowledge of pathogen and plant disease biology to manage assays with novel genetics and control agents against target diseases such as Fusarium wilt,Downy mildew, lettuce drop, damping-off, and leaf blights.
- Maintain pure isolates of plant pathogen fungal and bacterial species to provide inoculum for efficacy studies.
- Maintain library of pathogen cultures to provide populations for efficacy studies.
- Assist in management of greenhouse space to provide plant material for pathogen and nematode needs.
Requirements
- Associates certificate in Biology or other science program
- 2 years of experience of Greenhouse experience required.
- 1 year of experience in a research environment
- Knowledge of California agriculture and relevant pathogens and pests.
- Ability to travel to grower and research station sites
- Comfortable working primarily outdoors and in greenhouse settings.
- Molecular biology experience (qPCR, RNA, DNA extraction), analysis a plus.
