This position is with the Field Biology team at Florida Ag Research in Thonotosassa, FL. The Biologist will join an interdisciplinary program focused on scientific investigations in crop protection, sustainable agriculture, and the development of new agricultural products for a diverse clientele. This is an ouitdoor field position, not a laboratory based job, although lab activities are frequently included in the daily routine . Nevertheless, sustained periods of outdoor evaluations of experiments comprise much of the the field biologist’s daily tasks and role within the company. A brief description of duties are as follows:
Responsibilities
Conduct field/greenhouse trials and lab assays to characterize foliar, soil, and seed-applied treatments.
Assist in applying experimental and commercial compounds to target crops.
Test efficacy and crop safety of test materials.
Manage, schedule, and conduct daily trial assessments working in coordination with other staff biologists.
Timely and organized data management from collection through data entry and reporting.
Maintenance of site records for trial conditions.
Manage and maintain field and application equipment and records as needed for regulated research.
Attend continuing education training for professional development and licensing requirements.
Qualifications and Requirements
Bachelor degree in horticulture, plant pathology, crop protection, agriculture, or related sciences.
Basic working knowledge of experiment design and field trial management.
Willing to routinely handle and apply crop protectants in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
Ability to work independently as a contributing member of a multidisciplinary research team.
