If you have someone grew up in US with German parent and with language level sufficient will works because they need to look at data and spot the issues/problem, They need to be sufficient to spot the issues

If they have any course certification/qualification to support their language level would be great

Tech skills:

Write basic SQL script to extract data

Regular expression

Python - they will test how to write the function

Not too hard but intermediate level

Regular expression

Open book - find answer

Certain level of experience

Onsite: at least 3 days a week

New York, Redmon and Burningham office

Education:

PhD – not a must

Bachelor or master would works

All about work attitude, need someone proactive, drive things, on top of things

Other industry background:

Data Science

Machine Learning

Annotation - maybe weak but possible

Interview:

One round of Language, knowledge, linguistic intuition

One round coding for SQL and Python - Data to analyses, solve

• If one round not going well, they will go for one more round

Test on English set

Capture the problem/pattern - standard training for linguistic

Job Description: Summary:
Linguist - German

We are looking for a Linguist to help us develop language components for a variety of voice-enabled technologies and products. We are seeking candidates with native or near-native fluency in German with strong linguistic data analysis and language technology experience to manage data collection, data synthesis and data annotation tasks, translation-localization and ML model improvements.

Job Responsibilities

• Provide linguistic expertise in the areas of syntax, semantics, pragmatics and sociolinguistics
• Collaborate with other linguists and data operations teams in data collection, data curation, translation, localization and annotation efforts
• Create annotation systems and guidelines
• Evaluate and curate data sets for ML models
• Assess model and data quality
• Collaboratively develop complex and consistent linguistic analyses

Required Qualifications

• Master’s degree in general Linguistics or Linguistics with an emphasis on Romance languages, Computational Linguistics, Speech Science, or related field
• Native or near-native fluency in German
• Awareness of German linguistic, cultural, local norms
• Knowledge of syntax, semantics, pragmatics, sociolinguistics, corpus linguistics, and other areas of linguistics
• Experience working with speech and text data in multiple languages
• Familiar with Large Language Models (LLMs) and their applications
• Comfortable working in a fast paced, highly collaborative, dynamic work environment
• Strong organizational skills and detail oriented
• Excellent communication skills both verbal and written

Preferred (additional) Qualifications

• PhD in Linguistics or Romance languages, language technologies, computational linguistics, speech science, or related field
• Experience with database queries and data analysis processes (i.e., SQL, spreadsheets, R, Unix, or others)
• intermediate or above skills in Python
• Experience with machine learning frameworks, NLP Libraries and Tools

Job Type: Contract

Pay: $45.00 - $60.00 per hour

Schedule:

• Monday to Friday
