Job Overview:
The Float Teacher will provide flexible, supportive assistance to various classrooms within the childcare center as needed. This position ensures that all children receive high-quality care, guidance, and supervision while maintaining a positive and enriching environment. The Float Teacher will assist with daily activities, monitor children’s safety, and collaborate with lead teachers to ensure a smooth and efficient operation of the center.
Key Responsibilities:
- Classroom Support: Provide assistance across different classrooms as a float teacher, covering for breaks, staff absences, or high-need situations. Ensure that children are engaged, safe, and receiving proper care.
- Supervision: Monitor and supervise children during playtime, snack time, nap time, and other daily activities to ensure safety and well-being at all times.
- Activity Implementation: Assist in implementing age-appropriate educational activities, arts and crafts, music, and play-based learning.
- Behavioral Support: Provide positive guidance and reinforcement to children, ensuring that all interactions are respectful and promote positive behavior.
- Communication: Communicate effectively with children, staff, and parents. Ensure clear and consistent updates regarding children’s needs, progress, and any concerns.
- Health & Safety: Assist in maintaining a clean and safe environment for children. Follow all health and safety protocols and report any incidents or accidents in a timely manner.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with the lead teachers, administrators, and other staff to ensure all classroom needs are met. Participate in team meetings and ongoing training as required.
- Additional Duties: Assist with classroom setup and cleanup, assist with meal and snack times, and support special events and field trips as necessary.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience: Previous experience working with young children in a childcare or educational setting is preferred but not required. Experience as a classroom assistant or float teacher is a plus.
- Skills:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multitask and adapt to different classroom environments.
- Patience, creativity, and a positive attitude.
- Ability to manage children’s behavior and maintain a calm, supportive demeanor.
- Knowledge of basic child development principles is a plus.
Working Conditions:
- The Float Teacher will be required to work in various classrooms, providing flexible support as needed.
- The position involves standing, walking, bending, and occasionally lifting up to 25 pounds.
- Must be able to pass a background check and meet state and center-specific licensing requirements.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $10.00 - $11.00 per hour
Expected hours: 35 per week
