Job Summary
Working under the supervision of a journeyman and/or lead carpenter, the apprentice carpenter will be training to get a better understanding of and improve his skills in the residential remodel trade by assisting with the demolition and framing of residential remodel projects.
Responsibilities
Assist the journeyman and lead carpenter with the demolition and framing of residential remodel projects, job tasks including but not limited to:
- Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, change orders and be able to do material take offs from them
- Lay out walls
- Lay out and installation of floor joists, stud framing and roof rafters
- Door and window installation
- Lay out and installation of stairs; calculate rough stringers to code
- Install siding
- Calculate rafters and use squares to create and install stick built roof framing
- Build decks, porches and install exterior trim
- Perform demolition
- Perform lead testing and abatement if required
- Minimum of 3 years of residential wood framing experience, including remodels and additions
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, electric and mechanical codes
- In depth knowledge of blueprint reading and structural framing codes
- Own basic personal carpentry tools
- Be physically fit and able to perform demanding work on a consistent basis
