JOB SUMMARY:
Performs all the essential functions of preconstruction cost estimating at all stages of design. Knowledgeable in the fundamentals, principal philosophies, and techniques used in producing construction cost estimates. The position requires reading plans and specifications as well as material quantity surveys. In addition to training and continued development as specified by the level and past experience of the Senior Estimator, various tasks including forecasting labor and equipment hour generation, presentation and communication skills, travel, and internal/external certification development will be required in this role. The levels and skills of the Senior Estimator will incorporate additional tasks and functions related to function/technical skills, client interaction, value engineering, constructability reviews, and scheduling concepts. Assists VP of Preconstruction to represent the firm in project meetings; working with other estimators and company employees to ensure department goals are met. The Senior Estimator will have acquired technical skills necessary to produce cost estimates on documents ranging from concept to bid. This person relies on previous experience and project data to create well-organized and reasonably accurate cost estimates having little or no specific design information at the conceptual level and is capable of performing project specific detailed quantity surveys using construction bid documents. This person is capable of documenting and analyzing results for use in future projects.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- 7 to 10 years’ experience in civil focused pre-construction and construction cost estimating, construction management, project controls, or related field.
- Minimum 7 yrs. commercial/construction cost estimating experience.
- Must have clear and analytical approach to problem solving, and strong decision-making abilities.
- Knowledge of construction market area of operation including pricing conventions and trends.
- Ability to prepare budget/conceptual cost estimates from limited information.
- Ability to read and interpret construction blueprints and other design documents.
- Ability to perform accurate quantity take-offs.
- Must have excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Solid organization, planning, collaboration, and leadership skills.
- Effectively coordinate and work independently with the client and stakeholders to accurately identify and capture project requirements.
- Demonstrated proficiency with internet and Microsoft Office Suite.
- AEP, CPE, CCP, or CEP certification or ability to achieve within 12 months.
EDUCATION: Undergraduate degree or experience equivalent to Bachelor's Degree
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: Current, valid Texas Driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record
