What are the responsibilities and job description for the Body Mechanic Internship position at Agency for Community Transit?
Description
The primary function of the Body Mechanic Intern is to learn, be exposed to, and assist in the safe and effective maintenance and repair of all equipment owned and / or operated by ACT. Furthermore, the position supports ACT's purpose and objectives by respecting and adhering to all policies and procedures of the Agency.
Essential Functions include but are not limited to :
- Assists in performing major and minor fleet body and paint repairs.
- Performs paint touch-up as needed (e.g., vehicles, tractors benches, walls).
- Assists in replacing decals and logos on equipment and vehicles.
- Assists in calculating and writing repair estimates on damaged property.
- Records all work completed and / or in progress into the computerized maintenance system.
- Stays current on auto body technology and regulatory practices.
- Stays current on latest practices as applicable to the Agency's needs including proper safety practices.
- Keeps his / her workplace clean and safe.
- Be aware of the potential safety and security factors throughout the transit facility and to follow all applicable policies and procedures of the Agency. Responsible to report any known or potential safety and / or security factor immediately to an appropriate supervisor, including any employee not following the policies and / or safety procedures.
- Attends work regularly.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Normal working conditions for this position are typical of an auto body repair shop environment. The position is exposed to high noise levels, oil, grease, fuels and fumes. Capacity to work beyond standard hours when needed to address maintenance needs.
Physical requirements of the position include full range of motion in all extremities. Possess the ability to lift and maneuver objects weighing up to 75 pounds (e.g., a bus tire). Must be able to walk at least one mile and work standing on feet, bending and stooping. Position may require performing tasks while laying flat on back while arms are lifted above head. Must be able to pass Department of Transportation physical exam and drug screen, Respirator Medical Evaluation, and Respirator Fit Test.
