The Opportunity

As a Design Engineer, you will work closely under the guidance of a Product Manager, focusing on new product development and lifecycle management. Your primary responsibilities will include designing systems and metal fabrication components for conveyor handling products within the agricultural sector. You will determine product specifications, perform verification and maintenance tasks, and manage product lifecycles. Additionally, you will illustrate systems from specifications, source control drawings, sketches, models, prototypes, or verbal instructions.

You will also be involved in writing software to automate general design processes, such as 3D configuration tools. Proficiency in SolidWorks and Inventor for CAD, as well as VB/C# .NET for programming, is essential. Your role is crucial in ensuring that company operating and cost efficiencies are achieved, quality and safety standards are met, and customer delivery deadlines are adhered to.

The Team

Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, this role will collaborate with the Global Product Management Team to design permanent handling equipment, and with the Sales Execution team to support order fulfilment. The role will also closely work with the engineering, marketing, sales, and manufacturing teams to ensure the integrity, reliability, competitiveness, and profitability of the permanent handling product lines.

Responsibilities

  • Revise size, shape, and arrangement of parts to create practical design drawings and participate in engineering and general design reviews as required.
  • Review, create, and apply engineering standards and codes, including interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, or computer-generated reports.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Manufacturing Operations on studies, designs, specifications, and drawings to identify and implement solutions to logistics, mechanical problems, and technical challenges.
  • Design and coordinate engineering tests and experiments, including preparing qualification test procedures, acceptance test procedures, reports, standard operating procedures, and standard work instructions.
  • Create, modify, and maintain bills of material to support order management, manufacturing, material requirements, and cost control.
  • Communicate with customers through quotations, meetings, and presentations to understand and define their technical needs. Act as the technical expert for both internal and external customers.
  • Utilize project management software such as JIRA to keep relevant parties informed of work status, workload, problems, and progress related to work assignments.
  • Follow Agile methodologies to ensure timely and cost-efficient project delivery.
  • Implement software-driven solutions that automate daily tasks, product design, and quality management.
  • Perform additional related duties as requested or required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Engineering Degree or equivalent from a four-year college.
  • 1 - 3 years’ experience in engineering preferred, but not required.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Engineering design skills with metal fabrication, material handling equipment, grain systems, or equivalent.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail and results.
  • Mechanical and technical skills and knowledge.
  • Ability to follow directions.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, both independently and in teams.
  • Results-oriented while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Effective prioritization of work based on demand.
  • Ability and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to apply principles of scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
  • Ability to handle nonverbal symbolism (formulas, equations, graphs, etc.) in its most complex phases.
  • Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
  • Work with customers to define requirements, address technical concerns, and provide project status.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
  • Ability to work within multiple software applications and/or ERP systems for quoting purposes.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks and/or other drafting programs.
  • Exposure to C#/VB .NET programming languages.
