POSITION OVERVIEW FOR SENIOR SUPERINTENDENT

The Senior Superintendent oversees all field operations for electrical construction projects, with a focus on public works and prevailing wage compliance in California. This role bridges leadership between project management, general foremen, and field teams, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality project delivery. The Senior Superintendent collaborates closely with estimating teams during the pre-construction phase to align project planning with operational execution.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES FOR SENIOR SUPERINTENDENT

Leadership & Supervision

  • Directly manage and provide leadership to General Foremen and field staff.
  • Ensures alignment with project objectives, timelines, and budgets.
  • Act as the primary field operations leader, promoting safety, efficiency, and accountability.
  • Serves as the main point of contact for the escalation of on-site issues from General Foremen.

Pre-Construction Planning

  • Participates in estimate handoff meetings to review project scopes, budgets, schedules, and risks.
  • Collaborates with estimators to validate labor and equipment plans, addressing logistical challenges.
  • Engages in project planning sessions, including baseline schedule development, material takeoffs, and subcontractor scope alignment.
  • Provides insights to the estimating team on field execution challenges during pre-bid planning.

Scheduling and Coordination

  • Oversees the development and execution of project schedules, ensuring all milestones and critical path items are met.
  • Coordinates resource allocation across multiple projects, balancing crew workloads and equipment availability.
  • Leads pull planning sessions to align crews and subcontractors with project goals.

Safety and Compliance

  • Enforces adherence to California Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) regulations and prevailing wage requirements.
  • Implements and monitors site-specific safety plans in collaboration with General Foremen.
  • Ensures all work complies with public works standards, including certified payroll requirements.

Project Execution

  • Monitors daily field activities, providing support to resolve scheduling, labor, and material issues.
  • Coordinates inspections and testing, ensuring compliance with project specifications and timelines.
  • Oversees change order management, provides labor impact assessments, and collaborates with Project Managers for formal submissions.
  • Review daily logs, progress reports, and subcontractor performance to identify and address potential issues.

Subcontractor Management

  • Maintains strong working relationships with subcontractors, ensuring alignment with schedules and quality expectations.
  • Address subcontractor performance concerns, escalating issues to Project Managers when necessary.
  • Ensures subcontractors comply with safety protocols and prevailing wage regulations.

Reporting and Communication

  • Serves as the key liaison between field teams, Project Managers, and stakeholders, facilitating clear and consistent communication.
  • Conducts regular site visits to monitor progress, identify risks, and ensure adherence to project plans.
  • Participate in client and internal progress meetings, providing field-level insights and updates.

Project Closeout

  • Leads field teams through project completion, managing punch list items and final inspections.
  • Ensure accurate as-built documentation, coordinating with field staff and subcontractors.
  • Supports the preparation and submission of O&M documents, ensuring completeness and accuracy.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR SENIOR SUPERINTENDENT

  • Minimum of 10 years in construction (electrical construction preferred), with at least 5 years managing public works and prevailing wage projects in California.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • OSHA 30, First Aid/CPR, and relevant electrical certifications preferred. Proficiency with Procore, SAP, and MS Project preferred
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of public works regulations, including prevailing wage compliance.
  • Proficiency in scheduling, project planning, and resource management.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Effective communicator with experience in stakeholder management.


TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
