Agios Pharmaceuticals is searching for a dynamic Senior Manager, Scientific Communications and Publications to join our growing Global Medical Affairs team. We want someone who cares about this important work, and who is driven to connect to our mission of helping these patient communities. The Senior Manager will be contributing to the planning and execution of global publication and scientific communication strategic plans and tactics, including but not limited to manuscripts, congress presentations, core slide decks, scientific platforms, booth content, MSL tools for external use, MSL training materials, and company organized global symposia. In this supporting role, the Senior Manager will engage with multiple internal and external stakeholders such as Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Patient advocacy, Translational Research, Biology Research, HEOR, Biostatistics, Training, external authors, investigators, publishers, and medical communications agencies.
What you will do:
Publication Responsibilities
- Develop and execute global publication tactics, ensuring alignment with GPP, ICMJE guidelines, and Agios policies.
- Contribute to development and management of global strategic publication plan in alignment with the medical affairs strategy.
- Collaborate with alliance partners to ensure compliant and transparent publication processes. Participate in publication discussions during team meetings.
- Manage vendor relationships for publication activities, including overseeing electronic publication management tools. This includes onboarding vendors, coordinating initial meetings, ensuring accurate documentation, and providing training on relevant processes.
- Conduct quality checks of publication documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with standards and policies.
- Maintain expertise in disease areas by keeping up with medical and scientific literature.
Scientific Communication Responsibilities
- Contribute to development and management scientific communications plan, ensuring alignment with the medical affairs strategy.
- Manage and build out global scientific communication materials, including MSL slide decks, tools, FAQs, and internal training resources, while engaging internal and external subject matter experts.
- Contribute to development and execution of scientific communication activities for congresses, medical booth materials, and company-organized symposia and meetings.
- Facilitate the review and approval of scientific communication materials through the Agios review committee process, ensuring timeliness, accuracy, and adherence to regulatory and company standards.
- Manage relationships with scientific communication vendors, ensuring alignment with the overall communication strategy. This includes onboarding vendors, attending initial meetings, completing necessary documentation, and providing training on relevant processes, tools, and compliance requirements.
- Perform quality control for digital content, ensuring accuracy, relevance, and alignment with digital team standards through regular reviews and updates. Collaborate closely with vendors to ensure timely and accurate implementation of feedback.
Innovation and Strategy
- Identify and implement innovative communication channels and technologies to enhance the dissemination of scientific information.
- Explore opportunities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of publication processes and scientific communications.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with medical, clinical, stats, HEOR, and regulatory teams to ensure alignment of scientific communication and publication strategies with broader organizational goals.
- Provide support and expertise to cross-functional team members in relevant projects as need.
Performance Metrics and Reporting
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators for scientific communications and publications.
- Prepare and present regular performance reports and metrics to leadership, highlighting achievements and areas for improvement.
What you bring:
- Advanced Degree: Doctorate in medicine, pharmacy, or a related discipline.
- Experience: 2 years in medical affairs, scientific communications, and/or publications.
- Project Management: Strong skills and leadership experience to negotiate and align internal and external stakeholders (KOLs, authors, cross-functional teams).
- Veeva PromoMats: Experience with submissions and review process.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Developing abstracts, posters, presentations, manuscripts, medical slide decks, and content for scientific and educational programs.
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Interpreting and implementing regulations and guidelines (e.g., FDA, OIG, GPP, ICJME, MALR).
- Attention to Detail: Highly organized and able to multi-task in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Mindset: Positive, entrepreneurial, self-driven with a passion for rare diseases.
- Travel: Ability to travel (US and International) approximately 20% of the time.
Work Location:
Location Agnostic: Work location for this role is based on employee's individual preference. This role can be either remote in the US or hybrid in our Cambridge Headquarters. Hybrid schedules vary but are generally less than 3 days per week onsite and hybrid employees are expected to live within commutable distance to our Cambridge Headquarters. Remote employees work entirely from home except for attending Company sponsored events/ meetings. For employees who choose to work remotely, travel may be required for certain company events commensurate to the above job description.
