Purpose:

Assists in improving and maintaining a process by being able to analyze data to help improve production uptime, process capabilities, process improvements, and determining potential failure points in equipment to mitigate unexpected downtime due to equipment failure. Meeting these requirements while ensuring product quality, scheduling adherence, operational uptime, and achieving cost targets along with that of meeting plant safety/housekeeping goals.

 

Essential Functions:

Safety –

  • Complete required audits at the prescribed frequency. These may include Key Safe Behavior audits, Safety Walk and Talk, or similar.
  • Adhere to and enforce the Laurinburg plant Working and Safety Rules
  • Complete required compliance training
  • Be an active participant in accident and injury prevention using audits, dialogue with operators, and system design.
  • Identify engineering solutions to potential safety issues, utilizing the safety and sustainability improvement plan to track initiatives.
  • Embrace and abide by the 10 Key Safety Leadership Behaviors.

 

Environmental –

  • Track area incidents and develop corrective actions as needed.
  • Identify, monitor, and control waste and implement recycling initiatives.
  • Participate in identifying, reviewing, and minimizing environmental aspects and impacts.
  • Complete environmental training as required.

 

Quality –

  • Monitor and improve process capability to ensure product conforms to customer requirements.
  • Work with quality to perform root cause analysis and implement countermeasures for external customer issues as required.
  • Create and maintain metrology routines for critical measurement systems.

 

 

Process –

  • Using process characterization, create Processes of Record (POR) for processes within your area and ensure that the supervisors understand them and can effectively implement them.
  • Monitor trends of variables in your area to ensure optimum operations using process capability.
  • Provide technical support and training for coating operations and all coating team members.
  • Support shift operation of the coating processes on the glass manufacturing lines by assisting in troubleshooting equipment and process problems.
  • Ensure that coating meets production standards by analyzing data and note variances in a timely manner to provide for corrective action through process control.
  • Obtain and provide data about potential equipment failures.
  • Working with others in the coating department to ensure a timeline is established for equipment replacement based on potential equipment failure data.
  • Create and maintain PFMEA and reaction plans for critical variables in your area to help guide improvement, minimize the risk of unplanned process interruption, and assist the shift teams in following proper reaction protocols.
  • Working with R D to help produce and implement ICAP and FASTSCAN for various coating products.
  • Provide continuous improvement solutions to coating related problems by creating work procedures and training documents and videos.
  • Responsible for documenting problems and preventing reoccurrence by initiating corrective actions and auditing to ensure effectiveness.
  • Responsible for continuous process and equipment improvement in coatings process.
  • Establish and track appropriate KPIs to establish the performance of the area and use continuous improvement methodologies to work towards improving results.
  • Assist in procuring “replacement” parts in all areas as necessary and ensuring proper emergency spare parts in core area exist in stores.
  • Maintain positive relations with employees to assure optimum performance.
  • Ensure and maintain operating area in terms of plant housekeeping 5S goals to maximize day-to-day working environment.
  • Liaise and attend meetings with other company functions to perform your responsibilities, aid the business and for your organizational development.
  • Provide priority to maintenance personnel on work activities.
  • Ability to effectively present data and project updates to the management team on a quarterly basis
  • Champion Lean Manufacturing Processes – 5S, Lean Manufacturing, Quick Kaizens, Kanban, Problem Solving, Six Sigma, ME 360, GEMBA Walks.
  • Adherence to NSG/Pilkington Standards of Business Conduct and its Values and Principles.
  • Other duties as assigned by manager.

Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering or related field
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Working knowledge of computers and computer software (MSOffice, specifically MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent writing skills for reports, presentations, policies, procedures, and specifications
  • Excellent planning/coordination skills
  • Self-directed team member with a positive attitude to improve the process.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform tasks based on “on the job training” and/or practical applications.
  • Experience with SPC and data analysis software preferred.

 

Qualifications Desired:

  • 4-year Degree in Chemical Engineering
  • Previous Manufacturing / Glassmaking Experience
  • Exposure to AutoCAD, SAP, Kronos, and/or RS Logix
  • Advanced Problem-Solving Skills (Six Sigma)
  • Strong in analytical, innovative, and strategic competencies
  • Experience with data analytical software such as Excel, JMP, Etc.

 

Other Requirements:

  • Necessary travel
  • Support 24/7 operation
  • Physically able to do hands on task on the floor for an extended period of time.
  • Ability to work in hot working environments.
