Summary:
Berberian Nut Company is seeking a proactive and self-starting Quality Control Technician to be based at our walnut processing plant. The QC Technician is responsible for the food safety and quality, customer satisfaction, and company welfare through the sampling and grading of product to ensure quality meets all assigned standards. QC Technicians may be assigned to different areas depending on the business need such as electronics, inshell packing, sheller, meats packing, sanitation, and huller/dryers during harvest.
Responsibilities:
- Enter all data into the inventory system, document findings accurately. and maintain quality records.
- Pull product samples from assigned drop-offs for grading and review as it comes off processing equipment.
- Take in-line process samples.
- Inspect the product for size, color, defects (insect damage, rancidity, mold) and other foreign material (fiber, shell, wood, plastic, etc.), all according to given tolerances and specifications.
- Ro-Tap and verify product grade for size and color per customer and/or process specification.
- Take moisture readings of kernels using meat grinder and Dickey-John.
- Hold product that is out of specification, log, and handle per protocol.
- Pull requisite samples by lot (per USDA protocol) for microbiological and chemistry testing and submit to QA department.
- Perform 100 Nut Crack-outs by Variety. Sample, grade, and test for moisture.
- Communicate inspection results on a continuous basis to machine operators, area leads and supervisors.
- Learn and understand SOPs, GMPs, HACCP, BRC, etc.
- Monitor and address any food safety concerns immediately. Report issues to management.
- Ensure appropriate standards of housekeeping and hygiene are maintained always in stewardship area.
- Monitor compliance with all food safety policies and procedures, and lead by example.
- Other duties include pulling samples for customers, assisting with sanitation and cleanliness of workstation and department areas, etc.
- Become well-versed with all SOPs, GMPs, HACCP, BRC, etc.
- Champion a world-class safety culture by attending all trainings, job safety analysis, positive promotions, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory agencies and local policies.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma of GED equivalent.
- Experience working in a food processing and/or manufacturing environment.
- Previous forklift experience with ability to obtain and upkeep certification.
- Basic math skills such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Computer competency with data entry and word processing.
- Strong demonstrated interpersonal, problem-solving, organizational and communication skills.
- Bilingual English/Spanish highly preferred.
- Willing and able to work rotating shifts including day, swing, nights. Shift may include long hours, weekends, and holidays, per company needs.
