Job Role:
The Agricultural Research Service is seeking a highly skilled Biotechnology Laboratory Assistant to join our team. As a member of our laboratory staff, you will be responsible for conducting experiments, collecting and analyzing data, and assisting with new lab techniques. Your work will contribute to the advancement of agricultural research and help us develop more effective methods for improving crop yields.
Responsibilities:
Some of your key responsibilities will include preparing solutions and reagents, collecting blood and tissue samples, utilizing personal computers and software packages to tabulate, analyze and summarize biological data, and performing routine and recurring techniques and studies using a variety of specialized molecular equipment.
Requirements:
To be successful in this role, you will need to have a strong background in biology or a related field, as well as experience with laboratory equipment and techniques. You should also be able to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication and problem-solving skills. Additionally, you must meet the specialized experience requirements outlined below.
- GS-05 Specialized Experience:
Qualifying experience includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-04 which is directly related to the work of this position. This may include experience assisting with new lab technique; and operating or maintaining standard scientific biological research equipment or systems. - Education:
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study above the high school level leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, or mathematics. At least 6 semester hours of courses must have been directly related to the position.
