Chief Estimator Duties :
- Assist senior staff in efficient bid reviews.
- Evaluate bid opportunities across departments.
- Implement strategies to enhance estimate accuracy.
- Lead and manage a team of estimators.
- Train inexperienced estimators in the bidding process.
- Analyze crew size, production rates, equipment needs, and material costs.
- Factor in CPM schedules, rental equipment rates, and logistical considerations.
- Incorporate escalators for materials, labor, and fuel costs in bids.
- Ensure thorough understanding of Special Provisions and ask pertinent bidding questions.
- Review plans and specs to identify project risks and estimating opportunities.
- Prepare quantity takeoffs and estimate guidelines.
- Coordinate with take-off engineers for accuracy.
- Maintain HCSS masters for updated labor, equipment, and overhead rates.
- Manage HCSS Heavy Bid and Heavy Job systems.
- Evaluate technical project issues to optimize construction methods.
- Develop estimated plans and schedules with project teams.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and site tours as required.
- Verify estimate production rates align with company history and trends.
- Support technical proposal requirements and qualifications.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
- Prepare cost reports and present findings to stakeholders.
- Foster productive relationships with clients, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Assist project managers with change order cost estimates.
