Job Summary:
The Electrical Engineering Technician is a highly skilled and motivated technician to support our maintenance/engineering team in designing, testing, and maintaining electrical systems and components including repairing circuit boards at the component level. The Electrical Engineering Technician will also play a key role in assisting engineers with the development of electrical projects, and ensuring the functionality and safety of electrical equipment. Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assist electricians and process engineers with troubleshooting complex electrical issues in production environments.
- Assist electrical engineers in the design, development, and testing of electrical systems and components.
- Build, modify, and repair electrical equipment such as circuit boards, control panels, and power supplies.
- Use testing equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, etc.) to test and repair electronics on bench and in the field.
- Ability to work with 480V high current phase angle fired controllers.
- Document test results, design changes, and maintenance records in a detailed and organized manner.
- Assist in the checkout of electrical schematics and technical drawings.
- Provide support in completing electrical conduit and wiring take-offs for electrical projects.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, local codes, and industry regulations.
- Participate in the assembly, wiring, and configuration of electrical systems.
- Maintain inventory of parts, materials, and tools required for electrical projects.
- Work with Scale contractor to ensure all Scale calibrations are kept up-to-date.
- Keep accurate records for ISO, maintenance repairs, and inspections and issue out of tolerance notices when necessary.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical malfunctions, including but not limited to motors, transformers, generators, circuit breakers, PLC’s and control systems.
- Conduct inspections to ensure electrical systems and components are functioning properly and meet regulatory standards.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Assist in the development and implementation of preventive maintenance schedules for electrical systems.
- Collaborate with other departments and team members to coordinate maintenance activities.
- Order parts and materials required for repairs and maintenance as needed.
- Respond to emergency maintenance requests as needed, including after-hours work.
Scope:
The Electrical Engineering Technician will be responsible for scale repairs and calibrations including out of tolerance notices and ISO documentation, setup of new scale indicators, load testing and repair of Spang power units and current injection controls for bushings and melters, load test and calibration of electric boost controls and maintaining Netguardian alarm units and notifications. This position will also be responsible for the repair, test and calibration of 92A, digital resistance and Berthold nuclear glass level transmitters, differential pressure transmitters, Dataforth transducers, UPS units including super capacitor UPS units, auto restart relays and scale platforms for inline scales replacing load cells when necessary. In addition, the Electrical Engineering Technician will assist engineers and electricians with complex electrical issues and projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electronics, or related field or equivalent experience required.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical or a related technical field, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Strong proficiency in computer skills including configuring electronic components, PLC downloading and Drive Setup.
- Strong knowledge of electrical circuits, components, and systems.
- Knowledge of industry standards and safety regulations, such as NEC, OSHA, or UL.
- Familiarity with industry-standard electrical software tools (e.g., AutoCAD, MATLAB, or similar).
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical documents.
- Hands-on experience with testing equipment, such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and load testers.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well within a team environment.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
Position Type, Work Hours and Travel
Full-time salaried exempt position with occasional hours outside normal hours for plant needs and emergencies. Travel is less than 10%.
Work Environment:
This role primarily takes place in a manufacturing environment. Employees may encounter moderate noise levels and are required to follow established safety policies and use personal protective equipment (PPE).
