Responsibilities
- Maintain a regular presence on the manufacturing floor to build a health and safety culture and provide support to the team.
- Oversee contracted health services team.
- Manage Workers Compensation program.
- Evaluate, develop, deploy and monitor safety and health programs, procedures, policies, and standards to ensure compliance with federal, state, local, customer, and Ahlstrom safety and health standards and requirements.
- Manage assigned projects to successful completion.
- Develop and present training programs to employees.
- Provide support to the manufacturing leadership team in safety compliance, employee ownership and safety accountability.
- Provide focus, direction, leadership, training and technical expertise to tactical teams and committees.
- Identify, implement and solidify best-known preventive/compliance safety and health standards and practices into all operations.
- Develop, implement and administer an internal safety and health hazard/risk assessement and standards compliance auditing processs designed to validate adherence to best-known standards and practices.
- Lead root-cause analysis investigations procedure/process
- Prepare and communicate post-incident and near-miss findings through written and vebal communications.
- Lead safety continuous improvement processes utilizing tools of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma
- Serve as the point of contact for all inquiries, communication and interface with Federal, State, and Local agencies/authorities.
- Ensure adequate safety and health controls are properly designed, installed, trained and operating on all equipment.
- Must follow Ahlstrom’s manufacturing and hygiene processes, procedures and policies, as applicable, to the position’s areas of responsibility, in order to meet and maintain the safety, quality, and regulatory compliance requirements for each grade of paper
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a safety management role, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
- Passion for safety and working with employees.
- Strong knowledge of safety regulations and standards.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to conduct thorough investigations and implement effective solutions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.
- Certification in safety management (e.g., CSP, OSHA) is preferred.
