Coder I (FT, Days) Monterey Park Hospital

Monterey Park Hospital, located in the San Gabriel Valley of Los Angeles County, is currently recruiting for a Coder I for the Medical Records Department. This is a full time, 8 hour, non-exempt, day shift position. Monterey Park Hospital is a 101 bed acute care community hospital. We rank highest in patient satisfaction among the six (6) hospitals within the AHMC Healthcare Inc. system. Monterey Park Hospital has provided our community with advanced medical and culturally sensitive healthcare services for over 50 years. The Coder I reports to the HIM Director.

The Coder I will assign codes for diagnoses, treatments, and procedures according to the appropriate classification system for inpatient encounters and outpatient encounters. Use official coding guidelines and APCs reimbursement expertise to assign appropriate ICD-10, CPT-4, and HCPCS diagnoses and procedures.

Abide by the Standards of Ethical Coding/AHIMA and adhere to official coding guidelines. Other responsibilities as determined by the Coding Manager, HIM Director in conjunction with executive management.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• Current coding certification - RHIA, RHIT, or CCS
• 0-1 year of coding experience in acute hospital setting
• Knowledge and application of ICD-10 classifications, CPT-4 and HCPCS with an accuracy level of 95%.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office, EHRs, Encoders
• Analytical/critical thinking and problem solving
• Knowledge of information privacy laws and high ethical standards
