Create and maintain packaging label design mechanical artwork for a large retail grocery private brand portfolio. Apply knowledge of brand standards to ensure package designs support brand architecture, voice and strategy. Designers practice effective collaboration and communication with team members, internal clients, leadership and 3rd party creative partners. Orchestrate creation, review and rework of multiple package design projects that are in different stages of the process requiring good project and time management. Ensure production accuracy and timing across all assigned projects. Production work will consist of maintenance/line extensions, new item development and new or updated brand conversions.

Artwork Production:
Framework & guidelines: Under the leadership of the Design Manager, partners with the Creative Designers to deliver world-class design that meets the strategy and positioning (i.e. visual identity and design architecture) of every brand in the portfolio. Manages many projects (10-50) at various stages of a complex process, utilizing a proprietary software system involving numerous associates inside and outside the organization.
Financial dimension: Minimal, changes require approval from direct manager/supervisor.
Degree of latitude: Responsible to execute and uphold the visual architecture and printing quality of every package design across the family of Private Brands.
Interactions and relationships: Closely interacts with design team peers, Design Project Managers, Brand Managers, Regulatory, Design Managers as well external parties like suppliers, printers, and other third party providers.

Essential Job Functions
Artwork Production:
- Create and maintain packaging label design mechanical artwork line extensions, new item development and new or updated brand conversions.
- Ensure all designs meet Private Brand standards while ensuring the accuracy of all packaging information (spelling, graphics, informational copy, and compliance with established design parameters).
- Review digital proofs for accuracy and upload to workflow portal for stakeholder approval.
- Produce label designs and execute the release to prepress and printers.
- Resolve production issues related to package designs by exploring solutions, discussing options with Design Manager, and then making appropriate decisions and communicating with Print Production Manager, Designers, suppliers, printers and prepress while maintaining integrity of designs
- Format typesetting and graphics on package design projects in accordance with established design guidelines using standard templates, fonts, colors, logos, etc.
- Metrics: Private Brands Sales Penetration/Sales/Profits, Private Brands Quality/Price/Variety/COGS, Responsible Products, Renovation, Customer Satisfaction at brand level (e.g. NPS, brand tracker)
- Resolve production issues related to package designs by communicating with Print Production Manager, Designers, suppliers, printers and separators while maintaining integrity of designs.
- Work with the Design Manager to approve or alter mechanical artwork to ensure graphics meets the design and brand standards.
- Metrics: Private Brands Sales Penetration/Sales/Profits, Private Brands Quality/Price/Variety/COGS, Responsible Products, Renovation, Customer Satisfaction at brand level (e.g. NPS, brand tracker)

- Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis until the end of their appointment
- Ability to quickly solve problems in a collaborative manner and communicate technical aspects to vendors and in-house personnel
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Confident in knowledge base and application of the package production process
- Strong multi-tasking abilities with attention to detail a must
- High volume/pressure position
- Demands accuracy, self-assurance and a willingness to understand consequences that decisions have on timelines and cost of goods
- Able to work under pressure to meet deadlines
- High level proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop)
- Strong understanding of all print processes (offset, flexography, rotogravure, dry offset)
- Must be detailed oriented
- Expert Macintosh environment
- Extensive knowledge of print methods and their limitations
- Experienced with film output and type layout
- Microsoft Office applications
- Proficient conceptual skills in design, layout, copy fitting, text treatment, digital as well as manual
- Bachelor’s degree in graphic or commercial art, similar degree or equivalent job experience
- Minimum of 5 years in industry with a focus on production and pre-press
- Experience building food or food-related product labels preferred
