Ahold eCommerce Sales Company (AES) is a distribution facility based in Jersey City which supplies product for an expanded Peapod by Stop & Shop fulfillment operation in the NY Metro market. We are in search of driven and detail-oriented professionals to handle receiving, selection and delivery from our highly automated center.
PRIMARY PURPOSE
Are you ready to join the rapidly growing world of e-commerce groceries? We are on the forefront of the eCommerce boom and serve the Stop & Shop Delivery fulfillment operation for the entire NY/NJ Metro market.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Dynamically assesses the flow of work (primarily visually) within a specific operational area throughout the course of the shipping shift via a nearly 100% presence on the floor.
• Anticipates potential bottlenecks, excess tote accumulations within a zone, lack of sufficient volume of work, and conveyor issues and immediately acts to mitigate, reduce, or eliminate the negative impact on optimal flow and efficiency. Over time, this Coordinator is fully capable of managing the workflow of any specific area of the operation (though he or she may be considered an “expert” in particular areas)
• Executes required procedures to sustain the optimal flow
• Transferring hourly selectors to different work zones, as the situations and work demands warrant
• Splitting and combining zones in the system to address excess or insufficient work within a zone
• Splitting a zone and selecting in the second half of the zone until a log jam is cleared
• “Buddy Picking” with a selector for a short period when the potential exists for the zone to be cleared quickly
• Urgently addressing conveyor issues and conveyor line backups to ensure the free flow of totes along all conveyor areas
• Monitoring key bottleneck areas (Lidding, Produce, Dry Put-Wall) and maintaining sufficient resources to keep those areas flowing
• Supporting other areas with selectors, etc., as needed, in an effort to keep the entire operation balanced throughout the shift
• Utilizing various tools and reports to assist in monitoring and reacting to work flow issues
• Supporting expeditors with the objective of getting priority totes to the dock to meet departure times
• Executes workflow processes and makes decisions which enhance AES’s customer service proposition including but not limited to: on-time loading, quality packing by selectors, accurate and complete order fulfillment, and an urgent focus on product quality to our customers. Coaches associates on the importance of complete orders and product quality as changes are made to optimize workflow
• Performs shift setup and closing operations, taking into account the number of required pick zones, attendance, volume, production requirements, departure times, and necessary paperwork (if any). Validates that all work stations and pick zones within his or her assigned area have sufficient equipment for the shift’s volume demand, in particular Pick to Light scanners and RF wrist-mount units. Assists with labor forecasts and department schedules to support the day-to-day operations
• Diagnoses and reacts to system and/or mechanical issues and responds appropriately to promote the continuous flow of totes through the area, including conveyor jams, bad scans, mechanical issues, scanner issues, etc. Is able to diagnose and resolve some routine equipment issues. Otherwise, communicates the circumstances to the Flow Desk and engages with others as necessary to bring the issues to quick resolution (e.g., Dematic, AES Maintenance, PTAC, etc.)
• Creates and maintains a positive, team oriented environment via daily working relationships across all levels within the shift. Willingly moves from one area to another as needed by the operation. Aggressively promotes a safe and sanitary work environment in all areas
• Assists in associate training as time permits. Provides feedback to others in a constructive manner
• Makes suggestions for process and/or system improvements which will enhance the efficiency of workflow through the facility. Participates in various ‘pilot’ efforts to test new ways of executing the selection/shipping process
• Is capable of participating in preferred methods audits and providing coaching to other selectors to improve their productivity, accuracy, safety, and sanitation
• Understands and is capable of executing the selection and expeditor job functions. Knows how to utilize Pick to Light and the RF wrist mount units and can jump in to assist with production if the situation warrants
• Ensures that processes are common and consistent on the same shift and across other shifts
• Administrative duties as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
• 2 years warehouse experience. Some level of leadership potential demonstrated
• Strong communications skills, able to engage with others non-confrontationally a must
• Strong sense of urgency with the ability to work within tight deadlines a must
• Adaptable to change and able to think quickly and make decisions on the fly a must
• Good listening skills a must
• Good math, reading, and computer skills a must
• Familiarity with assembly line / manufacturing principles a plus
• Knowledge of Manhattan and/or Dematic systems a plus
