Financial Reporting Accountant

Job Summary:

The Financial Reporting Accountant reports to the Director of Accounting and plays a vital role within the Financial Reporting team, contributing to essential processes involving preparation of journal entries and reconciliation schedules for corporate entities, which encompasses but is not limited to equity, debt, and derivatives, as well as the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Participate in the month-end close process by preparing, entering, and/or uploading general ledger journal entries.
• Reconcile accounts related to corporate entities on a monthly basis.
• Review and maintain financial records and subledgers to ensure adherence to GAAP principles.
• Prepare trial balance tie-out files and supporting workpapers for multiple corporate entities.
• Align consolidated Income Statements and Balance Sheets with corporate trial balances for each reporting period.
• Generate quarterly financial reporting schedules to support SEC filings (10-Q/10-K), including calculations for two-class EPS and dividends/distributions workbooks.
• Manage the Company's equity recording process, which includes preparing equity-related journal entries, workpapers, and quarterly Consolidated Statements of Equity.
• Oversee the Company's corporate debt recording process, including the preparation of debt-related journal entries and supporting workpapers.
• Handle the Company's derivatives recording process, including preparing derivative-related journal entries and workpapers.
• Assist in the review of quarterly earnings releases, supplemental materials, and other investor relations documents to ensure compliance with GAAP and accuracy.
• Engage in the financial reporting process and coordinate external audit relationships concerning the consolidated financial statements.
• Collaborate on the tax reporting process and work with external tax advisors as needed, providing relevant data for the income tax provision, REIT compliance, and annual tax returns.
• Streamline and enhance the month-end close process by developing and implementing effective accounting control procedures.
• Update and maintain debt amortization tables and supporting schedules for financial reports and disclosures.
• Prepare the consolidation of the balance sheet and income statement, ensuring appropriate intercompany eliminations.
• Analyze accounts for any unusual or unexpected activity.
• Address and resolve accounting discrepancies and irregularities.
• Ensure that control activities are executed properly in the assigned areas of responsibility.
• Perform ad hoc reporting and special projects as directed by the supervisor or department head.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related discipline.
• 2-5 years of relevant accounting experience.
• CPA eligibility a plus.
• Proficient in Microsoft 365 suite of applications.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to work alongside a wide array of employees.

• Knowledge of Yardi accounting software and/or Vista by Viewpoint Construction software a plus.
• Knowledge of Workiva financial reporting software a plus.
