Cosmetology Instructor (Chapter 74) Program Expansion
Job Goal: To prepare students for careers in the Cosmetology field, and to instill the employability and professionalism skills needed to be successful in the workplace.
The Team & Learning Environment: The Cosmetology instructor will be part of a NEW Cosmetology department, using both teaching and industry experience to teach students the technical skills they need to be competitive in the workforce. The department is overseen by the Associate Principal for Career and Technical Education, who along with the teachers, works with an Advisory Committee of area business leaders so that our curriculum and equipment align with industry demand.
Mentoring: Teachers who are new to the profession will be matched with a veteran teacher who will serve as a mentor and provide guidance on lesson planning, behavior management, assessments and grading, etc.
Qualifications: Eligible applicants must possess a Chapter 74 Cosmetology license from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Responsible for the delivery of instruction of Cosmetology, in accordance with departmental curriculum objectives and the MA CVTE Curriculum Frameworks.
2. Utilize MA curriculum Cosmetology frameworks.
3. Establish and maintain a professional classroom/shop environment, with an emphasis on shop safety, strong work ethic, and mastery of skills.
4. Attend General Advisory Committee meetings.
5. Establish and implement specific goals in accordance with district-wide, school-wide, and department requirements.
6. Support the Director of CTE in recommending program improvement, equipment & supply purchases, and grant preparation.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. MA DESE Teacher’s license (Chapter 74) in Cosmetology
2. Curriculum development experience and knowledge of integration of technical competencies with curriculum frameworks.
3. Five years of recent (within the last seven years), full-time employment experience directly related to Cosmetology or teaching experience.
4. Competency in software related to Cosmetology.
5. Competency in the use of computer applications and instructional technology to aid in the interactive delivery of instruction.
