JOB SUMMARY: The Central Sterile Processing Tech is accountable directly to the central sterile team leader, the perioperative clinical supervisor and the director of perioperative services. The Central Sterile Processing Tech is responsible for decontamination, preparation, sterilization of central sterile trays, instruments, equipment, inventory and restocking of supplies and computer data. Demonstrates knowledge of all department locations within facility and ability to access all departments. Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrates detailed awareness and knowledge of atient supplies and equipment.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING
• HSD/GED required
• At least two (2) years experience as a Central Sterile Technician in an acute care hospital setting preferred.
• Central Supply Certified certification, CER, CRCST, CIS all mandatory within 12 months from date of hire.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Exchanges supply carts and inventories PAR levels.
2. Processes dirty equipment and keeps Central Sterile equipment inventory.
3. Supplies departments with necessary equipment either from Central Sterile or rental as appropriate.
4. Does sterile processing/distribution.
5. Runs STAT calls of supplies to Patient Care Units/Departments.
6. Orders supplies for Central Sterile Department at the direction of supervisor.
7. Participates in Performance Improvement (PI) Program and department specific PI data collection.
8. Assumes personal responsibility for on-going education and professional development.
9. Communicates suggestions and/or changes to the Supervisor regarding operations of the department.
10. Utilizes available resources effectively.
11. Demonstrates a willingness to learn and accepts new responsibility with enthusiasm.
12. Avoids and prevents injury to self and patients by applying the principles of body mechanics. Maintains a safe environment, functioning with an awareness and application of safety issues identified within the unit facility.
13. Practices telephone etiquette when placing and answering calls for the department.
14. Utilizes the National Patient Safety Goals in the work place as related to job performance. Demonstrates awareness of a safe environment for staff, patients, visitors, or any others on the unit.
15. Maintain regular attendance.
16. Performs all other duties as assigned or required.
