Position Overview
AIAA is looking for a creative, detail-oriented Social Media Intern to join our Marketing, Sales, and Communications team. This internship starts the first week of May and will run through the end of August 2025. This part-time, temporary position (approx. 20 hours per week, with flexibility) will support AIAA's social media and communications efforts, helping to grow engagement, amplify key messages, and strengthen AIAA's online presence across multiple platforms. With a strong and growing community of over 52k followers on LinkedIn, 23k on Instagram, and a thriving audience on Meta, YouTube, Threads, and X, AIAA is committed to connecting and inspiring aerospace professionals, students, and members worldwide. Working directly with the Director, Communications and Social Media Communications Specialist, this role is ideal for an undergraduate junior or senior who is a creative, detail-oriented individual with a passion for social media, communications, content creation, and the fields of aviation and aerospace.
This internship will primarily be located at the AIAA office in Reston, VA. Candidates must reside in the DMV area. Housing and transportation will not be provided. Pay rate is $20 per hour.

Key Responsibilities
- Assist in content creation, including writing engaging social media copy, designing graphics, and sourcing visuals.
- Monitor AIAA and ASCEND social media channels up to three times daily, engaging with our community by liking, commenting, and sharing relevant posts.
- Support the development and execution of social media campaigns around AIAA events, programs, and initiatives.
- Conduct research on trending topics, hashtags, and best practices to enhance AIAA's digital strategy.
- Track key social media analytics (impressions, video views, engagement, audience growth) and compile reports with insights and recommendations.
- Assist in video editing and short-form content creation for reels, stories, and short video
- Identify industry influencers and key voices to engage with and amplify AIAA's reach.
- Stay updated on platform updates and algorithm changes to optimize content strategy.
- Schedule: Flexible, expected 20 hours per week in a hybrid work setting.
- Location: DMV area (Opportunities to attend AIAA events and webinars for content creation).
- Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams, members, and external partners to meet social media goals.
- Currently a junior or senior in college, pursuing a degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Digital Media, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of social media platforms, including LinkedIn, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), and YouTube.
- Experience with tools like Canva, Adobe Suite, or CapCut is a plus.
- Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with an eye for compelling content.
- Passion for aerospace, engineering, or STEM is a bonus!
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment and work independently.
- Bring samples of previous work, class assignments, or a portfolio.
