The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) will help assist the Director of Nursing (DON) in coordinating the nursing department. They will assist in the development and/or execution of Quality Assurance Activities for the facility, The ADON will be responsible for the nursing team and quality of resident care in the absence of the DON. This person will supervise, analyze, delegate, and evaluate nursing care and activity to ensure patient comfort and care is individualized and promotes highest quality of life for the people served. The ADON is also responsible for evaluating and supervising the other nurses and certified nursing assistants who directly perform resident care.

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Responsible for supervising the nursing team in the coordination of care for the residents and daily responsibilities of the nursing team, this includes Licensed Nurses, TMA’s, CNA’s and NAIT’s.
- Responsible for competency training and evaluations for nurses, nursing assistants, and nursing assistants in training. Completed for new hires and annually for active employees.
- Provides on the floor education and observation to nursing staff throughout all shifts.
- Serves as a leader for the mentoring program in the nursing department. Providing mentors with training and techniques on how to be a good mentor.
- Serves as supervisor to the nursing assistants in training. Participating in training upon their hire and throughout their progression into the nursing assistant role.
- Tracks progress of new nursing assistants and nursing assistants in training through the mentor program in conjunction with the Director of Nursing.
- Conducts periodic meetings for Nursing Assistant in Training.
- Assists with providing direct care and meals as needed.
- Provides daily rounds to supervise and monitor resident care.
- Collaborates with residents, staff, and families/responsible parties.
- Responsible for addressing staffing issues.
- Work closely with DON and team leaders, checking for problems/concerns, and resident care changes.
- Assure Risk Management compliance.
- Provide assistance with survey process and plan of care.
- Attends Medicare/PPS meetings and other meetings as needed.
- Communicates new orders for physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy for evaluation to contract therapy provider.
- Completes quarterly psychotropic documentation quarterly, including progress notes and required assessments.
- Ensures completion of consent forms for psychotropic meds (yearly, on admit or change in dose).
- Tracks and updates Moses and discus reporting as needed.
- Update toileting schedules weekly and as needed.
- Assist at mealtimes as needed.
- Give direct nursing care when needed.

Required Skills/Abilities:

- Must be able to supervise, evaluate, and when necessary, discipline employees according to the policies and procedures at Aicota Health Care Center.
- Ability to deliver direct resident care services.
- General knowledge of nursing theory and practice.
Education and Experience:
- Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Must retain a current, unrestricted license in the state of Minnesota as an RN.
- Must retain a current CPR.
