What are the responsibilities and job description for the Housing Specialist position at AIDS Ministries/AIDS Assist?
This position provides housing-related information, referral and case management services to agency clients and their families.
Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
- Coordinate screening and placement of eligible clients in housing programs.
- Assist client in locating available housing opportunities.
- Collaborate with Non-Medical Case Managers and Housing Staff to ensure clear communication concerning clients’ housing-related case management and needs.
- Ensure housing clients follow housing program rules and regulations.
- Along with the client, develop an achievable housing care plan.
- Ensure housing clients are paying appropriate rent amounts to landlord or AM/AA.
- Refer clients for services and visit clients as needed for housing issues.
- Develop working relationships with area landlords, various housing agencies, and other community organizations to advocate for increased resources and placement for agency clients in existing housing programs.
- Maintain both paper and electronic files for housing participants
- Work in coalition with other individuals and organizations in accessing housing resources for people infected with and affected by HIV/AIDS who are homeless or threatened with homelessness.
- Maintain Housing On-Call phone on a scheduled basis.
- Participate in site reviews, visits, and audits as they pertain to areas of responsibility.
- Notify supervisor of maintenance issues at agency owned apartments.
- Follow protocols to fix any issues at properties.
- Participate in any quality improvement activities and cultural competency programs as requested.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Education & Experience- Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university; or one to two years’ related experience and/or training required in housing-related social services; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of HUD-funded housing programs useful but not required. Excellent communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, and organizational skills essential. The ability to make decisions on the spot is required. Computer literate with Microsoft Office products desired. The ability to maintain absolute confidentiality is expected.

Pay: $32,000.00 - $35,000.00 per year
