What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engineering Technician II position at Aiken County (SC)?

This position will perform a variety of technical engineering work to support senior engineer staff in the preparing of engineering documents, details and report. In addition, the position will assure county construction projects are built according to approved plans, and that the construction complies with County regulations and other governing agencies, as required. As such, the individual should be familiar with interagency regulations and standards and their application for projects within the county.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. Construction Site Visits – This position travels throughout Aiken County to observe the building and/or maintenance projects of the County roads and buildings. This position is usually involved in pre-construction meetings, and responsible for reviewing and understanding the plans. Having reviewed the plans for each project, the incumbent determines whether or not the work is being done according to plan. The incumbent will attempt to negotiate while onsite to resolve any potential problems. Those that cannot be resolved are referred to the Construction Manager or County Engineer. 2. Stormwater Assessment – While at the Construction site, the incumbent will check the management of pollutants from the site to be certain all required measures are being taken to prevent discharge into the local water supply. Any problems noted are normally addressed and remediated at the site. Any unresolved issues are referred to the Stormwater Manager. 3. CAD Drafting – This position MAY be involved in updating manual plans with CAD drawings, as well as updating the reports that accompany such drawings. This may involve researching for conceptual designs and presentation drawing and sketches for roads, drainage, buildings, and easement/right of way projects.4. Mapping – This position may develop GIS maps and maintain databases for Engineering/Stormwater projects using ArcGIS software.5. Administrative Duties – This position may be responsible for completing a variety of reports, including BMP’s, citizen complaint reports, or other construction related paperwork.This position works with very little supervision while traveling onsite. The incumbent is expected to understand the federal, state and local regulations governing this work, and to work collaboratively in the field to ensure compliance.This job has specific physical requirements such as lifting, driving, ability to travel, etc. (Please specify in the box immediately below.); traveling and working at a construction site; stooping, standing, crawling; ability to safely walk and climb uneven terrain for extended periods of time, sometime in poor weather conditions.Note: The list below is not comprehensive; this job is also responsible for other duties as assigned.
