JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective

This position will assist in and support all areas associated with the engineering, operation, and maintenance of the electric distribution system of Aiken Electric Cooperative, Inc. by applying technical knowledge, sound engineering judgment and skill to ensure the electrical system meets the present and future requirements of the membership and in support of the Mission will strive to provide reliable, competitively priced energy and other services that are desired by the membership.

Essential Functions

Develop and apply knowledge of:

  1. Construction, operation and maintenance of the Cooperative’s electric distribution system.
  2. Substations and works with Substation Technician on projects.
  3. Staking and design standards, requirements, and procedures.
  4. National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) and how it applies to the Cooperative
  5. General operation of RUS and the RUS procedural aspects as they pertain to the Cooperative (Bulletins, Federal Regulations, Specifications, etc.)
  6. General RUS accounting regulations and procedures relative to cost allocations, electric plant accounting, work order accounting procedures.
  7. Computer related modeling and analysis software (power flow, voltage drop, fault current, etc.)

Work Environment

Work will normally be performed in an office environment but may also consist of work outside during inclement/extreme weather conditions – heat, cold, rain, snow, ice, high winds – and day and night.

Physical Demands

Manual dexterity, adequate reflexes, and visual acuity are required to maintain proper safety while inspecting lines, assisting in construction and maintenance work at jobsites, driving; and when preparing and completing paperwork, and operating keyboard and mouse at computer and/or terminal. Listens and communicates orally and in writing.

Frequently sits, sits in a vehicle to drive and/or ride to various sites, stands, walks, bends, stoops, squats and twists.

Occasionally climbs and balances on ladders, equipment, and other devices, kneels and crouches while inspecting and assisting with construction and maintenance of the system.

Travel

  1. Periodic travel to state and local destinations, as well as some interstate travel is required.
  2. Regular travel to and from substations, district offices and other field areas as required.

Required Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from an EAC/ABET College or University.
  2. Coursework in power and distributed energy.

Preferred Education and Experience

  1. EIT or ability to complete within first year.
  2. SC licensed Professional Engineer or ability to complete within five years.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  1. Valid Driver’s License
  2. Legally eligible to work in the United States
