Registered Nurse – PACU and Outpatient Surgery

    Providing comprehensive nursing care to patients before and immediately after surgery, including assessing their condition, administering medications, monitoring vital signs, managing pain, and ensuring a smooth transition from the operating room to recovery in the Post anesthesia Care unit (PACU); their primary focus is on patient safety and comfort throughout the surgical process.

    Preoperative Care :

  • Conduct thorough patient assessments to identify potential risks or complications
  • Obtain informed consent and review medical history
  • Prepare patients for surgery by starting IVs, administering pre–operative medications, and providing instructions
  • Educate patient and families about the surgical procedure and post–operative expectations
  • Monitor vital signs and manage any pre–operative complications
  • Postoperative Care (PACU) :

  • Closely monitor patients as they recover from anesthesia, including vital signs , level of consciousness, and pain level
  • Manage pain medication administration as ordered as ordered by the physician
  • Assess for potential complications like bleeding, infection, or adverse reactions to anesthesia
  • Provide post–anesthesia instructions and discharge planning
  • Collaborate with other healthcare team members to ensure smooth patient transition to the next care level
  • Excellent critical thinking, communication, and assessment skills

    Ability to work independently and as part of a team

    Strong ability to manage stress in a fast–paced environment

    Qualifications

    Job Requirements :

    Graduate of an accredited or NLN–approved RN program.

    PACU and / or OPS experience. Must be willing to cross train in PACU and Outpatient Surgery areas.

    Current South Carolina nursing license.

    BLS, ACLS, PALS (upon hire). CPI (within 6 months)

    Must be able to take on–call.
