Job Summary
This position is responsible for performing a wide variety of patient care duties which include assisting in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician. Responsibilities include interviewing patients, measuring vital signs (i.e., pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), performing venipuncture, and documenting in the Electronic Medical Record in accordance with IPM guidelines. You will prepare treatment rooms for examination, assist in covering the front desk, execute prescribed treatments and medical interventions, administer medications, monitor treatment progress, and educate patients and families about health status and management of conditions.
- Ensures that patient rooms are kept stocked and clean; also ensures that equipment is kept clean.
- Distributes referrals as necessary to physicians and insurance companies; keeps proper documentation of referral requests / responses in patient charts.
- Pre-authorizes prescriptions and clinical tests (CT, MRI, Ultrasound, etc.) as necessary.
- Phones / faxes patient prescriptions as necessary.
- Schedules tests as ordered by Provider.
- Contacts patients with lab results and sends letters to patients as necessary.
- Accurately performs clinical duties to include triaging patients, checking patient vitals, administering injections and venipunctures, and prepping patients for physician exam.
- Accurately performs a variety of clinical testing, including EKG, PFT, PAP, CLIA waived lab tests, ear irrigations, 02 sats, vision / color charts, and urinalysis / hemocult tests according to physician orders.
- Thoroughly and accurately completes patient information forms prior to physician meeting with patient; assists physician with chart as necessary.
- Adheres to IPM Safety and Quality guidelines.
- Engages clients and families in the development and implementation of a care plan with evidence-based patient education within the scope of practice.
- Triage patient concerns in accordance with evidence-based nursing judgment and within the scope of practice.
- Appropriate response to crisis interventions and emergency response.
