Position Snapshot: The OPWDD Support Broker advocates for individuals with developmental and other disabilities to lead a self-directed life. We believe people with disabilities deserve the opportunity to direct their own support while maintaining or improving their quality of life in their homes and in their community.
Essential Functions:
- Assist the individual to develop and maintain a planning team/circle of support and assist in directing planning meetings. This includes assisting the individual in scheduling and facilitating meetings, identifying new members, identifying, and assigning roles and tasks for planning team members; assisting with the overall functioning of the planning team; and ensuring members are freely chosen by the individual and the team is operating in the individual’s best interest and within the principles of Self-Determination.
- Assist the individual to develop a comprehensive Self-Directed Budget that is consistent with his/her) Life Plan and working with the individual and planning team to ensure that all necessary safeguards are included and addressed in the life plan.
Education & Experience:
- Successful completion of the Broker Training offered through the DDSO and other required training with approval of the DDSO to act as a Broker (To be completed after hire.)
- Associates Degree in Human Services or Social Work with 2 years of applicable experience in human services, case management, customer service, health care, or
- Any combination of education and experience that provide the knowledge, skills, and ability necessary to perform the essential functions of this position to the satisfaction of AIM’s executive director
