The mechanic performs all maintenance and repair on company trucks and equipment. The Mechanic must be experienced and equipped to take responsibility for the overall condition and availability of the fleet. Strong Customer service and communication skills along with mechanical aptitude are required.
Primary Objective:
The regional lead mechanic oversees the maintenance and repair on company trucks and equipment. The Mechanic must be experienced and equipped to take responsibility for the overall condition and availability of the fleet. This position requires a flexible work schedule to ensure trucks and equipment are available and fully operable for each job assignment. This position will manage other mechanics – both internally and externally - performing the repair work.
Essential Duties:
Typical duties include, but are not limited to:
- Maintain eligibility for AIMS Company driving privileges (see AIMS Employee Handbook).
- Supervises and coordinates the work of mechanics, to include preparing work schedules, and monitoring work quality and compliance of safe work practices and procedures; maintains an inventory to ensure adequate supply of materials and equipment.
- Performing and coordinating fleet maintenance and repair activities; work may involve maintaining service logs and records, scheduling oil changes and inspections; and diagnosing and troubleshooting the most complex fleet maintenance-related issues.
- Provides customer service and coordinates with vendors and other internal/external departments or agencies, to provide assistance and information regarding schedules and ongoing operations, respond to work orders and customer/departmental requests, address and resolve complaints, conduct follow-ups, and facilitate the most complex maintenance activities.
- Maintain high standards in performance of Preventive Maintenance on all trucks and equipment.
- Oversee or perform weekly inspections and general repairs on trucks.
- Prepares, maintains, updates, and/or submits reports, records, bills, work orders, logs, and other documentation; and uses, maintains, and/or updates databases and computerized systems and software; work will involve compiling and/or coding data on a daily basis.
- Practice “Repair before failure”
- Confer with the appropriate decision makers concerning parts that need to be ordered for immediate use and parts that need to be ordered to replenish AIMS stock.
- Maintain inventory and tracking shop tools, equipment and truck tools/equipment according to Companies’ Tool Assignment Agreement.
- Instruct the Crew Leaders and Operators concerning any equipment operating practices which may be detrimental to the life of our equipment.
- Inspects, operates, and maintains complex vehicles, tools, and equipment, including, but not limited to, hand and power tools, gauges, volt meters, radiators, safety devices, computer controls, converters, compressors, jet trucks, and/or bull dozers.
- Responsible for performing Annual Inspections an all AIMS CMV’s.
- Responsible for placing annual County tag stickers on every AIMS vehicle.
- Understand and train others on digging with the wand, excavate with the vacuum tube and safely man the remote control. Also, become familiar with setting up the flushing hose reel, flush head, and tiger tail.
- Develop and maintain a good working relationship with Companies’ parts and service vendors.
- Wear all appropriate PPE and practice safe work habits.
- Understand and train others on how to repair trucks, equipment, and combo units of various sized pipes.
- Conduct oneself in such a way as to promote honesty, fairness, and integrity in dealing with customers, their employees and all AIMS employees.

Minimal requirements include:
- General repair knowledge on commercial trucks.
- 3-5 years of experience as a lead mechanic
- Auto Maintenance and Light Repair Certification
- Suspension and Steering Repair Certification
- Brake Repair Certification
- Medium Duty Brakes Certification
- Medium Duty Drive Train Certification
- Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Willing to work in adverse weather conditions.
- Willing to work in confined spaces.
- Must have dependable transportation and be willing to travel occasionally.
- Willing to work non-traditional hours and occasional weekends.
- Ability to demonstrate equipment operation, maintenance, and repair.
- Operate autonomously and demonstrate problem solving abilities
- Ability to review and red-line plans, technical specifications, project documentation
- Ability to communicate in English both verbally and in writing.
- Must pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.
Must be authorized to work in the United States
Preferred qualifications include:
- Certified Mechanic
- Commercial Driver’s License with clean driving record.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Above-average customer service and communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making ability.
- Learn to anticipate what needs to be done next. (Prioritize repairs)
Capable of working under time constraints to ensure critical deadlines are met.
Travel for this position is expected to be less than 20% per year. Overnight/multiple night travel may be required, including out-of-state travel.

- Mechanical Aptitude
- Ability to demonstrate equipment operation, maintenance, and repair.
- Operate autonomously and demonstrate problem solving abilities
- Ability to review and red-line plans, technical specifications, project documentation
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Ability to communicate in English both verbally and in writing.
- Must pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time, bend and twist at the waist, climb stairs, and walk without assistance.
- All applicants must have a clean driving record and must be 18 years old.
- A pre-employment drug test and background check is required.
- High school diploma or GED required

Working Conditions:
This position may require exposure to various weather conditions (i.e heat, rain, snow). Must be able to stand for long periods of time, bend and twist at the waist, climb stairs, and walk without assistance.

Benefits are available to full-time employees (30 or more hours per week).
