Minimum Hiring Annual Salary:

$48,288.00

Maximum Hiring Annual Salary:

$50,703.00

To attain the maximum annual salary, employee must meet all minimum qualifications plus:

  • 5 (five) years of additional applicable work experience and/or degrees higher than minimum qualification degree. Degrees higher than the minimum qualification degree can be used in combination with additional work experience.
  • A combination of related education, on-the-job work experience, certifications and/or licenses that results in a candidate successfully meeting the minimum qualifications of the position, may be considered.

The stated salary amounts are not guaranteed in the event employment ends with Aims during any fiscal year.

Job Description:

This position’s primary responsibility is to maintain assistive technology and related services for students who qualify for alternative text and assistive technology. This includes producing and coordinating alternate formats for students, acting as an interface with faculty members regarding assistive technology, training and supporting students in the use of technology, and compliance with the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, American Disabilities Act (ADA), ADA Amendments Act of 2008, copyright laws, and other regulatory issues as related to the position. This position provides assistive technology and related services to all campuses and as such requires travel to Satellite campuses on occasion.

Alternative Text Production (35%)

  • Procure/scan/edit/convert textbooks into multiple formats.
  • Track and maintain accurate inventory levels and records of production maintaining legal compliance.
  • Keep library of alternative media current. Collaborate with the various college, community partners, vendors and publishing resources — in order to proactively support the alternative media process by ensuring good relations and timeliness with regard to policies, practices, procedures and procurements
  • Troubleshoot alternative format accessibility and assistive technology issues as needed.
  • Produce necessary reports for tracking and evaluation as needed

Maintain the DAS Computer Lab (20%)

  • Ensure accessibility access for students in the lab
  • Research and recommend appropriate items for upgrade or purchase in order to meet all applicable requirements and/or laws.
  • Assist with Research and stay current with best practices in the field of alternative media and assistive technology in higher education.
  • Monitor developments and maintain compliance with Federal, State and institutional regulations regarding privacy, ADA, copyright laws, and Section 508 and 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
  • Coordinate and maintain assistive technology resources, including the loaning system and using AT on all campuses.

Training (30%)

  • Train students & staff on equipment and software
  • Collaborate with the appropriate departments regarding computer and technology needs of qualifying students to help ensure that services and materials are universally designed and accessible.

Accommodation Support (5%)

  • Facilitate accommodations for students with disabilities including proctoring assisted testing and/or securing, training, or note taking as needed.

College-Wide Accessibility (5%)

  • Help to manage accessible areas on all Aims Campuses.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Disability Services, Special Education, Counseling Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Rehabilitation, Computers/Technology or other related field, plus, 1 year of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and/or work experience.

  • Experience in the area of disability services, work with individuals with disabilities, assistive technology or using computer application software.

  • Knowledge and understanding of Mac and PC operating systems and software, assistive technology hardware and software, voice recognition, reading software, scanning technology and communication software for individuals with a disability.

  • Ability to manage and maintain records and databases to track, compile and interpret data.

  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.

  • Good organizational and time management skills.

  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and staff.

  • Ability to prioritize workload with multiple demands and frequent interruptions.

  • Strong commitment to customer service.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and understanding of disability related computer software, hardware, and general items typically used by individuals to ensure access.

  • Experience in the use of screen reading software programs, voice recognition programs, word prediction software programs, and other learning software programs.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office.

  • Working knowledge of a content management system (Workday) as well as other student database systems and/or other application software programs and equipment.

  • Knowledge of various laws and requirements to maintain compliance with the department and campus wide. (i.e. ADA, 504, WCAG, Case Standards).

Salary : $48,288 - $50,703
