Minimum Hiring Annual Salary:

$74,836.00

Maximum Hiring Annual Salary:

$78,578.00

To attain the maximum annual salary, employee must meet all minimum qualifications plus:

  • 5 (five) years of additional applicable work experience and/or degrees higher than minimum qualification degree. Degrees higher than the minimum qualification degree can be used in combination with additional work experience.
  • A combination of related education, on-the-job work experience, certifications and/or licenses that results in a candidate successfully meeting the minimum qualifications of the position, may be considered.

The stated salary amounts are not guaranteed in the event employment ends with Aims during any fiscal year.

Job Description:

Reporting to the Executive Director, Student Success (EDSS), the Director, Transition Programs provides strategic leadership in designing and executing a comprehensive, student-centered advising model rooted in appreciative advising pedagogy. This role is responsible for overseeing and directing all the Transition Center’s programs, services, and staff ensuring a seamless, holistic approach to supporting students as they navigate key academic transitions. This position will oversee and monitor the Transition Programs budget.

The Director collaborates closely with the Enrollment Management team to align efforts in high school-to-college transition (HS2Aims) initiatives and other enrollment pathways. This position leads the recruitment, training, and professional development of department support staff across all functional areas within the Transition Center, fostering a culture of excellence in student support. Additionally, the Director will provide direct advising to ensure continuity of services for students across the transition portfolio. Occasional travel is required for this position.

Leadership & Supervision:

  • Supervises support staff overseeing and directing daily operations, providing guidance and performance management, and ensuring efficient team productivity, including direct supervision to four programs within the Transition Center (Aims2UNC, HS2Aims, Reisher Bridge Scholars, and Transfer Services).

  • Offers leadership, guidance, and support in advising practices and professional development.

  • Assists in the training and onboarding of new staff in the Transition Center, ensuring adherence and compliance to best practices and institutional policies.

  • Collaborates with the EDSS and Director, Advising to develop and implement strategies for program improvement and effectiveness.

  • Leads testing of the ERP System and any other third-party systems as related to the Transition Center needs.

Case Management & Advising for Student Success:

  • Appreciatively advise and coach students dealing with complex academic situations by:

  • explaining Aims academic policies and procedures,

  • aligning a student’s program of study at Aims with their desired continued education pursuits and future career opportunities,

  • providing unofficial evaluation of transfer credits for course equivalences and possible application to Aims programs of study,

  • monitoring academic progress of students toward degree completion,

  • identifying current and potential needs or problem areas (e.g. study skills, tutoring), and referring students to appropriate campus resources for assistance.

  • Monitor graduating student progress, help facilitate a seamless transition for all advisees to the workforce or continued educational pursuits and coordinate any reverse transfer considerations in an effort to promote degree completion here at Aims.

  • Assist students with academic suspension and financial aid (credit limit, satisfactory academic progress, etc.) appeals.

  • Teach students how to use the college’s systems and technology (such as Workday).

  • Educate and empower students to develop the ability to identify and articulate their strengths as well as areas for growth.

  • Assist students in goal setting and academic planning.

  • Engage with and meet with students via in-person and virtual appointments, phone calls, texting, email, and occasional drop-in advising.

  • Serve as the primary liaison for advisees to other offices at Aims.

  • Manage an assigned caseload of students on career and academic issues, identify educational options appropriate for each student and assist with the analysis of each option, including possible outcomes and their implications through consistent outreach efforts.

  • Create and maintain records and files for advisors to use with students utilizing an integrated database system.

  • Check, various forms for accuracy, assist students in their completion, sign related forms as an advisor, remove holds when appropriate, and document student interactions on appropriate platforms including Workday.

  • Educate and advise prospective students, parents, high school personnel and the community of academic programs on college admissions requirements, financial aid policies, residency requirements and College policies.

  • Assess the students’ stage of development and promote growth by assisting students in establishing realistic and attainable academic and career goals.

  • Utilize resources such as transfer guides, to assist students in course selection and career goals.

  • Engage in initial career planning process by explaining the connection between majors, interests/abilities and career goals; keep accurate log notes that reflect the discussion and essential information conveyed to students.

Transitions Center Departmental Leadership:

  • This position is responsible for overseeing and directing all Transition Center related services, programs, and staff. This role is the leader within the Transition Center department and serves as the direct contact for escalated complex situations.

  • Participates and directs assessment efforts related to Transition Center effectiveness.

  • Supports the EDSS in strategic planning, program evaluation and assessment, and reporting.

  • Collaborates with the EDSS to develop and implement strategies for program improvement and effectiveness.

  • Maintains knowledge of community and campus resources by ongoing engagement with Aims faculty and staff, public health, private services, and community stakeholders.

  • Evaluates and enhances the quality of Transition Center services through consistent assessment, detailed documentation, comprehensive reporting, and the proactive revision of policies and procedures.

  • Directs, oversees, and supports Transition Center staff in achieving and maintaining relevant professional development certifications and engaging in continuous training.

  • Designs, develops, and implements educational programs to advance advising practices and knowledge both at the department level and college-wide level.

  • Leads weekly Transition Center meetings, ensuring continuity and effective team collaboration.

  • Researches and resolves concerns with student services.

  • Monitors and ensures compliance with legislative requirements such as FERPA.

  • Provides budget development recommendations to Executive Director.

  • Adheres to internal compliance standards and ensure support staff is also in compliance with Transition Center practices.

Transitions Center Program Development:

  • Directs, organizes, and conducts research studies on advising and/or retention issues.

  • Directs the development and implementation of student learning outcomes and assessment measurements for Transition Center programs.

  • Develops and executes reports for data analysis purposes.

  • Generates end of semester activities and progress reports for Transition Center.

  • Directs high-level promotion of Transition Center programming.

Other Duties as Assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree: plus,

  • Four (4) years of related experience to include direct service to students or an equivalent combination of education and/or work experience. Of the required four (4) years of experience, one (1) year must be supervisory and/or demonstrated leadership experience.

  • Skill in supervisory practices and techniques; knowledge of mediation and/or conflict resolution strategies and methods; skill in mediating disputes.

  • Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Demonstrated high interpersonal personal skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and equitably with diverse populations.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collegially and collaboratively with supervisors and colleagues.

  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions and take action on those decisions.

  • Ability to manage departments with high-volume workflows.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Education, Counseling, Student Affairs Leadership, or Psychology.

  • Experience in advising case management or coordinating services within a higher education setting.

  • Familiarity with student information systems (e.g., Workday).

  • Experience working with a diverse student population, including post-traditional students, students of color, Veterans, first-generation college students, and others from underserved or underrepresented backgrounds.

  • Bilingual with proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking Spanish.
