Job Overview :
AIMS Locum Tenens is seeking a qualified Inpatient Medical Coder (Coder III) to provide expert inpatient medical coding support for the Defense Health Agency (DHA) . The Coder III will be responsible for accurate assignment of diagnosis and procedure codes for inpatient facility and professional services, ensuring compliance with DHA accuracy, completeness, and timeliness standards.
General Duties :
- Provide services within the scope of clinical privileges granted by the Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) Director.
- Perform tasks as per the contract and outlined duties.
- Assign accurate ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, HCPCS, and CPT codes for inpatient medical records, including surgical procedures, anesthesia, and ancillary services.
- Ensure correct Diagnosis-Related Group (DRG) assignment for inpatient stays.
- Perform coding within MHS GENESIS and other military coding systems , including 3M Encompass 360 and Joint Legacy Viewer (JLV) .
- Research and resolve coding edit failures .
- Adhere to DHA Coding Compliance Plan and industry coding standards.
- Degree : Not specified, but education must meet DHA standards.
- Experience :
- Three (3) years of medical coding / auditing experience in a Military Treatment Facility (MTF) .
- Certifications (Required) :
- One of the following professional services coding certifications : CPC (AAPC) or COC (AAPC) .
- Skills & Knowledge :
- Understanding of healthcare reimbursement, revenue cycle management, and fraud regulations .
- Familiarity with clinical documentation improvement and EHR workflows . Benefits :

Specific Duties :
Qualifications :
Five (5) years of medical coding and / or auditing experience in two or more medical, surgical, and ancillary specialties within the last 10 years ; OR
One of the following institutional coding certifications : CCS (AHIMA), CIC (AAPC), or RHIT / RHIA (AHIMA) .
Advanced knowledge of ICD-CM, ICD-PCS, HCPCS, CPT, DRGs, APCs, and RBRVS .
