Description : Position Overview :

The Weekend Day Shift Worker will provide general supervision to American Indian youth between the ages of sixteen through twenty-one in a small group living setting. The Weekend Day Shift Worker is responsible for facilities management. The Beverley A. Benjamin Youth Lodge is a culturally specific transitional living program for youth that have no parental, substitute, foster or institutional home to which they can safely go. Primary program objectives are to stabilize youth in a safe, culturally supportive environment, address the critical issues / barriers to resident self-sufficiency and strengthen residents' community and cultural connections.

Hours / Salary : Part-time, non-exempt, no benefits. Shifts vary : 6 hours per shift. (Weekend Day shifts that fall on Sat / Sun 6-hour shifts. Shifts are within the hours of 12 : 00pm to 6 : 00pm. Hourly wage TBD.

Job Responsibilities :

  • Directly responsible to the Youth Lodge Program Manager.
  • Responsible for facilities management and cleanliness during work hours at the Youth Lodge that include tracking and ensuring youth safe arrival / departure from lodge in evening and morning, monitor Surveillance Camera System.
  • Perform primary maintenance duties and upkeep of physical plant in accordance with maintenance schedule and standards, primarily kitchen clean up, dishes, resident laundry, cleaning / organizing the first floor of the house, and occasionally cleaning bathrooms.
  • Request Youth Lodge expenditures, including food, supplies, equipment, and other program needs.
  • Maintain inventory of food, supplies, and equipment.
  • Responsible for enforcing a daily schedule and enforcing facility standards, program policies and procedures.
  • Provide information and referral to appropriate systems, agencies, and service providers.
  • Provide emotional support and guidance to residents, including conferring with the Youth Lodge Coordinator regarding incidents, behaviors, and general conduct of residents.
  • Track and record supplies and food for the program.
  • Print and post copies of sign in and out sheet, daily chores, and other documents as needed.
  • Attend required program staffing, agency all-staff meetings and trainings.

Other duties as assigned.

Academic Requirements :

A minimum of two years of college in human services, education, psychology or related field. Bachelor’s degree is preferred. Four years of direct service experience may substitute for academic requirements.

Requirements : Qualifications :

  • At least two years of experience working with youth and families in a human service setting.
  • Experience in shelter, group home or other residential program preferred.
  • Must be knowledgeable of the American Indian culture, values, and family systems.
  • Must be cognizant of and sensitive to the special needs / issues of American Indians and homeless youth.
  • Must possess practical knowledge of larger systems and service providers encountered by youth preparing for independent living.
  • Must be cognizant of and sensitive to the needs and issues of youth and youth adults in transition.
  • Must demonstrate a chemically healthy lifestyle.
  • Must have excellent work record and be able to demonstrate stability, role modeling for Youth Lodge residents.
  • Be able to model healthy lifestyles and positive choices to youth.
  • Must have excellent organizational, reporting and management skills.
  • Must have excellent written and communication skills.
  • Must possess working knowledge of youth health, nutrition, and development.
  • Must pass an MN DHS Background Check.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and vehicle.
