Financial Controller

JOB SUMMARYA well-established company specializing in high-quality systems for specialized industries is seeking a skilled Controller to oversee its accounting operations. This role ensures that financial records are accurate, up-to-date, and compliant with relevant regulations. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in accounting, effective leadership abilities, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. This position involves managing daily accounting activities, collaborating with other departments to support business operations, and providing valuable financial insights to inform strategic decision-making.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Supervise daily accounting tasks, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, job cost transactions, and the general ledger.
• Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring timely and accurate completion.
• Assist in the preparation of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports.
• Ensure compliance with tax regulations and handle tax filings, including sales tax and applicable business income tax.
• Generate comprehensive financial reports, highlighting key metrics, trends, and variances.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities and recommend financial improvements.
• Collaborate with department leaders to support budget preparation and financial forecasting.
• Analyze financial data to identify risks, opportunities, and discrepancies, providing corrective recommendations when necessary.
• Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with GAAP standards.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations.
• Manage and maintain the company’s accounting software and related systems to ensure data accuracy and operational efficiency.
• Evaluate and recommend new tools or technologies to enhance accounting workflows and processes.
• Assist with financial audits and coordinate with external auditors as needed.
• Provide financial insights to support the company’s long-term growth initiatives.
• Perform ad-hoc financial analysis and other projects as assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Strong knowledge of construction accounting concepts (such as job costing and WIP reports) is highly preferred.
• 5 years of relevant accounting experience.
• CPA or CMA certification is preferred but not required.
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage, Premier, or similar platforms) and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
