Under minimal supervision, the Quality Engineer at Eastern Sheet Metal, a subsidiary of Air Distribution Technologies, Inc, is responsible for maintaining compliance with ISO 9001:2000 quality systems. This role provides quality engineering support through DOE, SPC, and Product Quality plans while developing and monitoring product and process conformance to control plans. The Quality Engineer will play a key role in continuous improvement efforts in HVAC sheet metal manufacturing, ensuring high-quality ductwork and HVAC fittings meet customer expectations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Establish documentation of procedures, training, and leadership in SPC, DOE, and Quality Plans.
- Conduct system audits and lead Continuous Improvement Teams to enhance manufacturing processes.
- Provide leadership between suppliers, purchasing, design engineering, manufacturing, marketing, and QA to resolve quality concerns on purchased parts and materials.
- Ensure quality standards are met during production, resolve quality issues, and analyze SPC data to drive improvements.
- Maintain weekly review activities, develop and implement quality improvement strategies, and ensure proper record-keeping practices.
- Develop quality teams and corrective action plans to address non-conformance issues.
- Publish weekly and monthly reports and summaries to management.
- Provide written and verbal reports on quality issues and current activities to management, suppliers, and customers.
- Lead projects aimed at addressing quality concerns and implementing continual improvement initiatives.
- Develop and implement training programs to ensure an understanding of product requirements, including form, fit, function, and appearance.
- Maintain the calibration system in collaboration with manufacturing and calibration contractors.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's Degree (B.S.) in Engineering, Quality Management, Business, or Manufacturing from an accredited institution.
- Three to five years of related experience in quality control, auditing, lean processes, and engineering in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience in HVAC sheet metal or ductwork manufacturing is preferred.
- Master’s Degree and Six Sigma Green/Black Belt certification preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, professional journals, and industry regulations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for reporting and interacting with management, clients, suppliers, and customers.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
- Ability to calculate figures related to production metrics, quality measurements, and process improvements.
- Knowledge of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY:
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze data and address quality concerns effectively.
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment with minimal standardization, interpreting technical instructions and schedules.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Knowledge of ISO 9000 software and programs; AS400 query experience preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
- Occasionally required to climb or balance.
- Must regularly lift/move up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Exposure to moving mechanical parts and manufacturing environments.
- Occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions and vibrations.
- Noise level is typically moderate.
