This is a non-supervisory, interdisciplinary position classified as a Full Time Biological Science/General Engineer (Environmental /Environmental Engineer/Physical Science (Environmental).

The Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) is looking for a Permanent Full Time, Biological Scientist (Environmental)/General Engineer (Environmental)/Environmental Engineer/Physical Scientist (Environmental) (GS-0401/0819/0801/1301-14) to work at Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC), Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center (AFIMSC), in the Air Force Civil Engineer Center (AFCEC), Environmental Management Directorate (CZ), Legislative and Regulatory Engagement Division, Eastern Branch (AFCEC/CZPE) at Dobbins, AFB, GA. This position has a typical 2024 salary range of $131,690- $171,197 (includes locality).

Qualifications/Requirements

The primary purpose of this position is to provide program management of one or more Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regions and/or DoD Regional Office for regular Air Force (AF), Air National Guard (ANG), and Air Force Reserve (AFRES) environmental programs within the United States.

  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • May be required to travel by military or commercial aircraft or any other appropriate transportation. Incumbent will perform approximately 2-5 TDY trips per year.
  • Employee may be required to work overtime.

Recruitment Knowledges, Skills, And Abilities (ksa)

  • Knowledge of advanced engineering or scientific theories, principles, concepts, standards, and methods to resolve unique or novel environmental problems, conditions or issues in order to provide advice to leadership and/or agency officials.
  • Knowledge of current U.S. environmental laws and regulations, DoD, and AF instructions, policies, directives, and applicable agreements; professional knowledge or new applications or developments in environmental programs.
  • Knowledge of Air Force programming, budget, and funding processes and ability to forecast, develop, and evaluate resource requirements pertaining to environmental programs.
  • Knowledge of all existing operations with special emphasis and professional knowledge of environmental program management.
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety requirements as outlined in job related safety standards, regulations and orders.

Other Requirements/Significant Facts

For General Engineer (Environmental) (0801), Environmental Engineer (0819):

Degree: Engineering. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor’s degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. OR Combination of Education and Experience: College-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering.

For Biological Scientist (Environmental) (0401)

Degree: Biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

For Physical Scientist (Environmental) (1301)

Degree: Physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. OR Combination of Education and Experience: Education equivalent to one of the majors shown in above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
