Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC) is currently seeking Multi-Disciplinary Engineers/Computer Scientists/Logistics Management Specialists/Acquisition Program Management Specialists in the skill areas listed below to work at Hill Air Force Base near Layton, Utah.
Occupational Series 0830 – MECHANICAL ENGINEER: Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering degree.
Occupational Series 0855 – ELECTRONICS ENGINEER: Typically, Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering degree.

NOTE: The AFNWC has interdisciplinary teams and therefore seeks top talent from multiple engineering disciplines. The term “General Engineer” and the federal occupational series “0801 General Engineering” are used when more than one engineering discipline is suitable, or when no specific federal occupational series exists.
These positions are in pay band NH-03 which has a typical 2025 salary range of $88,621 -$137,000.

The primary purpose of these positions is to serve as either an engineer/computer scientist/acquisition program management specialist/logistics management specialist in AFNWC at Hill Air Force Base, Utah. Team members in AFNWC solve highly-complex problems and take part in a variety of projects to promote national security through nuclear deterrence. They decide what needs to be done, make sure it happens, and solve the most complex, high-risk aspects of the Inter-Continental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) program.
The AFNWC Minuteman III Systems Division manages the current ICBM technical life extension program and integrated life-cycle activities, including equipment spares, storage and transportation, modifications, equipment replacement, etc., to ensure that the ground-based leg of America’s nuclear triad is “Never Doubted – Always Feared.”
The AFNWC Sentinel Systems Division manages a major defense acquisition program charged to deliver a full system replacement for the nation’s Minuteman III system, providing an even stronger strategic deterrent to nuclear attack against the United States. The Sentinel Systems Directorate faces a challenge that the U.S. has never encountered before - reconstituting a nuclear weapons production capability without nuclear explosive testing.
RANGE OF DUTIES (NOT ALL INCLUSIVE):
- Perform multidisciplinary professional computer science/engineering work involving the application of electronics, mechanical, aerospace, and/or other engineering disciplines to determine the business and technical needs of customers in the acquisition, development, or sustainment of ICBM weapon systems, sub-systems, and/or support equipment.
- Perform complex and comprehensive analysis and integration, using disciplined and quantifiable approaches to implement, develop, and document assigned projects/programs.
- Ensure assigned projects remain consistent with program objectives, costs, schedules, performance criteria, and existing policies.
- Perform concept planning, design and development, integration, evaluation, and auditing of architecture content; identifies and resolves highly complex technical problems in a model-based systems engineering environment.
- Develop, implement and control contractual, financial, and technical aspects of a project/program through designated phases of the acquisition cycle for which no closely related precedents exist.
- Serve as a technical authority on acquisition strategy, formulation, and execution; provides oversight and management of assigned projects/programs and their execution status.
- Work in conjunction with the contracting officer to approve terms and conditions set forth in contract negotiations, contracting plans, budgets, and changes to the scope of work to be done by the contractor.
- Assess progress in assigned projects/programs including cost estimates, schedules, and performance supportability baseline requirements.
- Serve on or leads integrated product teams and working groups composed of various functional disciplines engaged in developing and recommending acquisition streamlining proposals and implementation plans.
- Represent the organization at executive levels within the government and to contractor/industry representatives; delivers presentations on project/program status, accomplishments, challenges encountered and anticipated, support requirements, and the integration and advocacy of program and project objectives.
- Provide continuous assessment/evaluation of overall program goals, objectives, strategies, performance to ensure a sound basis for long-range acquisition program management processes and follow-on system life cycle support planning.

- Employee is required to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise; new hire must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
- To qualify as a computer scientist, employee must have graduated with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science or a Bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science (please include transcripts).

- Employee must meet Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) requirements, which includes achieving Engineering and Technical Management (8XX, 1550) “Practitioner” certification category within required timeframe after appointment.
- Employee must meet Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) requirements, which includes achieving Program Management (1101) “Practitioner” certification category within required timeframe after appointment.
- Employee must meet Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) requirements, which includes achieving Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP), Life Cycle Logistics (0346) “Foundational” Level certification within 36 months of appointment.
