About the Role:
The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Quality Assurance Weight and Balance Technician (NH-1910-02) to work at the 412th Maintenance Group/Quality Assurance (412 MXG/MXQP) at Edwards Air Force Base.
Through integrated leadership and management of logistics test, logistics support, aircraft maintenance and modification and as the logistics anm of the 412th Test Wing, we test and evaluate aircraft and systems for development and sustainment of Air Force war fighting capability. As an integral part of the Air Force acquisition team, we focus on making sure the user is provided with capable and supportable systems that ensure combat superiority.

Location: Edwards, CA (Edwards Air Force Base)
Typical 2025 salary range: $47,019 - $112,053 per year (includes locality)
Travel Requirements: Up to 25% travel possible
Direct Hire Authority: NO 6-MONTH WAIT! Recently retired and/or retiring from MILITARY service ARE eligible for immediate appointment for AFTC positions. The 180-day waiting period has been waived for AFTC to hire recently retired and/or retiring service members.
Position specific skills and experience desired in a potential candidate:
- 7-level Civilian equivalent experience (Required)
- Considered Subject Matter Expert in one or more airframes (Highly Desired)
- Experience in general aircraft structure and the location of various aircraft components, operation of aircraft weighing scales, procedures for weighing each type of aircraft and methods of computing weight and balance data (Desired)
- Experience working with Contracts or as a Contracting Officer Representative (COR)

The 412th Maintenance Group (MXG) is responsible to 412th Test Wing (TW) Commander for establishing/evaluating logistics test requirements for all new/or modified weapons systems/subsystems assigned. MXG provides aircraft maintenance, logistics, manufacturing & modification support to test & evaluation programs. Position has the primary function of Quality Assurance Inspector/Weight and Balance Technician for the 412th Maintenance Group Quality Assurance Division.
Major Duties:
- Planning and coordinating of experimental measurements of mass properties including weight, center of gravity, thrust and moments of inertia about the three axes of aerospace vehicles, their components and stores.
- Responsible for the coordination of testing support activities such as special instrumentation, aerospace ground equipment, fuel delivery and fire protection.
- Responsible for the operation, maintenance and calibration of the facilities peculiar to aerospace vehicle mechanical and electronic weight measuring systems, stores weight and inertia measurement systems.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship
- Obtain & Maintain Security Clearance
- Knowledge of Aircraft Quality Assurance principles and their applications
- Knowledge in interpreting and applying preliminary, test, and established technical data, guidelines and checklists
- Knowledge of precision measuring equipment calibration and work standards, operating principles of mechanical and electronic force measuring devices, volumetric devices and meters used in the weighing of aircraft.
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
- Ability to work in teams
